My purse can feel like a suitcase at times! Over time I have found that there are a least six things that I carry with me at all times. There have been a few times where I question if I really need one of them and just pull it out of my purse. Only to find that it is the exact item that I absolutely need in a situation.
This is a must have! I always need to keep my lips hydrated. I also make sure that any chap stick I use has some spf in it so that I'm always protected from the UV Rays.
It is totally okay you guys can laugh at me, but I always carry an extra deodorant around in my bag. Two things typically happen to me. I am either running off on some adventure and well when I'm done sometimes I don't smell that great. The other thing that happens often to me is that I am in such a hurry I run out the door without putting any on. In either situation I am always glad I have a spare stick of deodorant.
I know I live in the northwest and well the sun does like to hide out for months at a time. Yet sunglasses is always on my list of must carry
for one when the sun comes out I can be like a vampire and run for cover, okay just kidding.
there handy to carry around for that afternoon blinding refection when driving home from work.
Second is that sometimes I do not always make it home before that horrid migraine kicks in and well they help with the sensitivity to light issue for me.
I know it sounds a little weird, nut like I mentioned above I love taking spontaneous adventures. Not all of the time, but most of the time these adventures call for bug spray. So yes, it is something that I would consider a necessity in my bag.
Even if you find it cloudy outside. Still apply sun screen to your skin. Even if you can't see the sun, just know that the UV Rays are always shinning. I for once again two particularly main reason. The first is that some mornings i forget to apply it. The other is that i need to reapply it especially if I find myself on one of those spontaneous adventures.
I always grab a bottle or two on my way out the door. You never know what traffic is going to look like and well I hate feeling dehydrated. I could probably manage to go through a day without having any of the listed items above with me, but I know for a fact I would not make it without water.
Share the top things you carry in your purse.
I would love to hear about your must have items.
Mistakes happen and they happen to everyone. They can suck, make you feel like you are wasting time, and even push you to move down a different road than the one you originally wanted to travel on. Mistakes are however a part of life. There is no way to avoid or climb on over them. The only thing you can do when a mistake happens is learn from the experience and try to change your actions so that it dose not happen again. The lesson learned from a mistake in my opinion is incredibly valuable. It helps to show you where your decisions and actions take you. It also helps for you to take a step back and to really think about what you can do to get you to the place you actually want to be
Learn From Your Mistakes
Learn from your mistakes. It's a statement that is used all the time, but what does this common phrase actually mean. It means that yes it's hard to realize and acknowledge that you screwed up. You however must push your ego aside and realize that you did in fact make a mistake. You then need to take the time to stop and look at where you are. How your actions and choices lead you to where you are in that moment. The first step is to acknowledge that you made a few wrong choices and you now find yourself in a place you didn't necessarily want to be.
Once you have acknowledged you made a mistake or two. It is now time that you find/ look for the lesson that is hidden in them. It might take awhile for you to figure it out. It might even lead you to a lesson that you already know. That is the tricky part about life. If you ever forget, life will help you make the same mistakes over. Just to remind you that your never to old to relearn valuable life lessons.
Once you have successfully acknowledged your mistake and found the hidden lesson. It is then time to use that knowledge to grow as a person. Use this new found or rediscovered knowledge to your advantage to help you get the outcomes that you want.
We all make mistakes. We all make the same mistakes and learn the same lessons. Our lives however are wonderfully unique from one another. This is because each individual person learns their lesson differently, applies it to their life differently, and makes different choices based off of those lessons. Each of us sketches out our own path in life. This is what makes us all uniquely different, yet somehow one in the same.
Learn From Your Mistakes Quotes
You're not alone.
Once again I can not stress this enough everyone makes mistakes. Our mistakes may leave us feeling like a failure, incompetent, or just down right nasty. You however must remember that you are not alone. We all make mistakes and we all at some point make the same mistakes. We all have to lean the same lessons in life. We even have to relearn old ones as time moves on. When you find yourself in a place where you didn't want to be. Remember to acknowledge that you messed up, find the lesson hidden, and learn from it. Apply the lesson to your life so you can get to where you want to be. We all make them, the magical part is being able to grow from them.

Have you guys seen the new shelves we added to the La Conner shop?
Here is a picture if you haven't?
I really love these two pieces. I think they were the perfect addition that we were looking for to really make our shop our own. While I love to post and tell all of you about the easy DIY projects I do. These two amazing pieces were actually a collaboration between my husband and I.
After being in the space for a few weeks. I really got the chance to feel out the entire layout of our shop. With this knowledge and overall feeling I was able to drew out the idea behind the shelves. I designed the layout that I wanted for the shelves. In what I think it a pretty great and detailed blueprint. In all reality I'm glad my husband is fairly in tuned with my all of the ideas I have.
I am aware that my picture representation of the shelves is a bit all over the place and crazy. My main goal at 3am was to get my idea down on paper mostly so I could sleep, but to also remember my idea for when the morning comes. I had a general idea of what I wanted and what measurements I wanted . So that is what my picture is mainly about.
While my husband was home from work I sat down and explained my really amazing drawing to him. He did give me a funny look at first, but was quick to understand exactly what I wanted. The best part of this project did not happen until my two younger boys walk in and decided to help us with the design concept. They made the wonderful addition of the copper piping replacing the iron pipes, having them be about two feet taller, and connecting them in the middle with more copper piping.
The copper piping that connects the two shelves as originally intended to display jewelry. My daughter however decided that it was the perfect place to display our Alpaca Scarfs. I must say that I agree with her, in that they look perfect in the space.
This is how the unique and wonderful magic so to speak happens at Thavin & Marcob. It is not just one person, it is not just one idea, nor is it just one way. It's about coming together and each of us collaborating to create that something beautiful. I'm sure the store will continue to change many times over the next few weeks. While we decide what works and what doesn't. The one thing that won't change is the magic that happens when we work together. I hope to see you guys in La Conner soon!
Until next week,
National Selfie Day is upon us.
So in turn I thought today would be a great day for me to reintroduce myself.
We have expanded and grown quite a bit in the last few months.
With this growth I have been given the opportunity to meet a lot of new lovely people.
The growth has also made me extremely busy and I have found that I am not connecting with all of you as much as I would like. However I thought today was the perfect day to reconnect with those of you who have been with us for a while and to connect with those of you who have just joined us on our crazy/amazing adventure.
BEFORE THAVIN & MARCOB
Before I decided to create Thavin & Marcob I was actually a Stay At Home Mom.
I raised 5 wonderfully unique children. This is my polite way of saying none of them are the same and each of them went through their own unique icky phase. So each child was a new learning experience for my husband and I. If you ever hear a parent say no two children are the same, believe them. Mine always were the best at keeping me on my toes. They also granted me with the gift of decades without much sleep. Even though they can be stubborn and difficult most times. I still love each one of them for always being their unique individual self.
WHY I STARTED THAVIN & MARCOB
I always knew that one day I would start my own company. I have always known that I wanted to be my own boss because in truth my personality dose not blend well with the idea of having a boss. Thavin & Marcob was create a little over a year ago. This is because when I had my children I wanted them to be my main priority. Even though my children are older and basically their own person now. I still do a lot of parenting. My wonderment and amazement goes out to all of those parents out there that work and care for their small children. I don't know if I would have been able to not explode if I had to work and care for my five children. They were a handful as youngster and still are.
HOW WAS THAVIN & MARCOB DEVELOPED
After I decided what Thavin & Marcob should look like I opened the conversation up to my immediate family. Together we created our path for Thavin & Marcob. I was lucky enough to soon realize that we all actually worked well with each other. Between bouncing ideas off each other to agreeing that this was the path to take and to not wait or follow another path. The chemistry that is created when ideas are bouncing around is really incredible. The individual personalities of each of us really helps to blend in different perspectives. Which is awesome because it means that we cover most bases and no I'm not just saying that because I'm mom.
WHO WORKS AT THAVIN & MARCOB
We are a family owned and operated therefore it's just us. However not everyone works full time with the business. We have two children who are full time students. They however do help when their schedule allows. We also have one child who is working out in the real world. This limits their availability to participate in the day to day operations. However they do give their insight with the bigger picture stuff. One of my children dose participate full time with the company and trust me the help is greatly appreciated. My last child is actually still in high school. He however dose help out and will be around the La Connor location this summer.
We all want to see Thavin & Marcob grow. In actuality it has grown exponentially in the last few months, which is awesome and very much welcomed. This company really dose mean so much to me. This company for me is about about creating memories and learning experiences for my children. It is about bringing consumers great prices and products. It is about meeting and connecting with new people. It however mostly about the journey and adventures I will find myself having because of it.
I guess now you know why it is I do what I do. Hopefully through this post you came to the realization that were are not all that different.
Hope everyone has a
Happy National Selfie Day!
See you Friday,
Time seems to be flying by incredibly fast. Dose it not feel like just last week we were celebrating the First Day of Spring. While I am a little sad that this year is seeming to fly by so fast. I can't help, but ignore that feeling and let the excitement of the summer months take over. I am extremely ready for picnics at the beach, BBQ's in the backyard, and warm summer night spent by a bonfire with family/friends.
Summer Styles to Fall in Love With
Summer brings sunshine, sun kissed skin, and wind sweep hair. It also brings the gift of Summer Fashion. While you can always count on the classics to help you dress for those lovely summer months. You also have the chose to wear all of those fun new and funky trends that help to make any summer brighter and even more fun. I am personally very excited to share those Summer fashions with the community of La Connor through our boutique. As well as sharing the Summer Fashions through our online boutique with everyone and anyone.
One of the best things that happens during the Summer in my opinion. Is the sense of adventure that the sun, clear blue sky's, and warm fresh air brings out in me. I hope that the adventurer in you is also awoken and you take it up on the opportunity to explore the world around you. When I adventure one of my favorite things to bring with me is a tote. I carry them to the Farmer's Market. I carry my lunch in one. I even pack a spare change of clothes and shoes that I just through in my trunk, just in case something were too happen and I needed to change. Carrying around spare clothes is a trick that I picked up from having five adorable rambunctious children. One that I am actually grateful of because now I can have as much fun as I want without having to worry about get too dirty/wet.
With this real love I feel for totes. We have included in our boutique called CTW Home Collections. I wanted to showcase this company in particular not just because they are an amazing company, but I truly love their bags. I own a few of them and I'm starting to think that I need to expand my collection. I don't think there is any way I can describe my love for these bags, so instead I will tell you how I use each of the bags I do have. Hopefully that will some how express how handy and amazing they are.
For instance The Song Of The Five Chicks. Bag is perfect for the trunk!
I load mine up with our amazing terry cloth beach towel, sunscreen, and a pair of our Bohemian sunglasses. There is also of course the addition of one of my favorite scarves in there. This way the adventure does not need to end with the weather starts to turn cold.
My second favorite bag in the collection is the Buy Local Bag. This Bag is an exceptionally useful size. Which is one of the reasons why I love this bag. I once fit 2 pounds of potatoes and three plants while shopping at the Saturday Market. Guess what, it also holds a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread, and a dozen eggs. My second favorite thing about this tote is that Buy Local is printed all over it. I love to support local and I love to encourage others to do so too. This bag is amazing and one that I am glad I invested in.
Now I hope you guys are ready for what I consider the icing on the cake. All of these bags are handcrafted. That's right they are handcrafted, meaning no two are exactly the same. These beautiful tote bags are crafted by traditional methods passed down through generations of the Indian Crest people. All of the materials are handmade and assembled by hand. This is why now two bags are exactly the same. These bags are created in India and are also a part of our Free Trade products.
While our lovely tote bags are what I would consider a classic. There is a new lovely trend popping up and I just can't get enough of. Have any of you seen the Round Beach Throws popping up over the internet. I have one and to say that I love it would be an understatement. I carry it around in both of my totes.
The Terry Cloth Beach Throw that we carry is on the bigger side. It measures 61 inches by 61 inches. It is fairly thick, but is also soft. This makes it perfect for those last minute trips to the lake or beach. The material it is made out of a fantastic towel. It can even become a warm wrap for those sunset evenings.
Our Black Throw is also one of my favorites. For starters it is thin, easy to carry, and is lightweight. All of these wonderful things mean I can easily throw it in my purse. It works fantastically as a waist wrap or as a shawl. I'm not lying when I say these things are so divsitle. I suggest that if you haven't invested in one you should.
WE MAY NOT NEED THEM,
If you're interested. You should to order yours ASAP.
I can guarantee that we will be able to restock this season.
In case I haven't said it before
We have grown so much in the last few months. Those of you who have just joined us on our wonderful and crazy journey find yourselves with quite a few question. Ones that I plan to answer in this blog.
Our Pricing Philosophy will remain the same between the La Conner location as well as with out Online Boutique. We will always try to give you the best price we can on each item we carry. With that being said. I just want to remind everyone that Thavin & Marcob dose not do a lot of sales throughout the year. What we do instead is attempt to keep things as reasonably priced as possible. Our pricing is really dependent on our venders. If I find a deal, you get a deal. That's how it works with us both online and in location.
Okay guys, here is where you will start to see a difference. Trendy styles are not necessarily moving at the La Conner location. We have found that the Classic Look is in more demand here than the Summer Trendy Look. So what you see in our La Connor boutique may not be seen online or vise versa.
WHO IS RUNNING WHAT
As many of you know Thavin & Marcob is a family owned and operated company. This fact did not change with our expansion. When you communicate with us you are always talking to the boss. Dose not matter if it is through Twitter, Facebook, or just through an email. You are talking to the boss.
IS TWITTER STILL THE BEST WAY TO STAY IN THE LOOP?
I will always love my Twitter community and yes I will still keep you up to date on what's happening here at Thavin & Marcob. However I have decided to grow our Facebook presence. this is more so for the La Conner location. Therefore if you are curious about what is happening at our store front. That is the place that you are going to want to look for information at. While your there go ahead and share our page with your friends. We love growing and appreciate all of the help and support you guys give to us.
Hope you find the post helpful.
Until next time,
Moving from being a strictly Online Boutique to an in person boutique as well. Is a little more trickery then I had initially thought. Even the little things we do, such as an Instagram post have a lot of thought put into them. So you can imagine how much time, preparation, hard work, and redo's have happened to make our La Connor Boutique a reality. Not only is assembling the shop a task in it self. We also had to learn how to be personable and interact with a customer. This was something that we did not nessicasrry have to think about when we were an Online Boutique. All of the interactions we had with customers came about online. So there of course was plenty of typing and retyping when we sent out emails/replies. Thankfully during our Soft Opening we had a chance to learn how to be personable and friendly. I thought that it would be fun to share what we have learned with all of you out there who also might want to learn or expand your knowledge of how to have a friendly interaction with a customer.
Thavin & Marcob's Tips
Always say Hi/Hello to everyone walking in the door. Manners still matter. So make use to still them. A warm and friendly Hello breaks the ice. As well as welcomes the customer to walk into your shop with a happy mind set. Your kindness might make someone's day.
Make sure you offer to answer any questions they may have or offer to help in any way.
Show your customer the service you wish to receive every time you walk into a retail store.
This is the one I think is the absolute most important tip. Probably the most valuable one I know as well. The tip is to Be Generous! I decided to give out these canvas tote bags during our Soft Opening. These bags were not special, they were not high end. They were nothing fancy at all. Don't get me wrong the were absolutely adorable. I was just unaware of how much the community of La Connor would love them. During our first few days of being opened we told people that they will receive a canvas tote bag with their purchase. After only two days we had people coming into our boutique to find out if it was true and how they could get one. The word of month that was created because of these totes was amazing and truly unexpected. So even if your just starting, even if it is opening day, and even if your broke as hell. I suggest you give a simple 10% off each of your customers purchase. Being known as generous and welcoming is always a positive reputation to have wen you own a business.
Be respectful to all. Respect al of the customers who walk into your shop. Amazingly enough about 99% of the time they will show you the same curtesy. You are going to run into those people that are in a bad mood and that are rude, but you should find happiness in knowing that you can still be the sunshine during a gloomy day.
Don't be afraid to Ask Questions. If your conversing with a customer and are unclear as to what they are explaining to you, ask a question. Form your questions in different ways until you understand the issue/problem/concern they are having. Sometimes it is great to just listen to what your customers are saying. This will help you grow as both a business and as a business owner. Not to mention make you a more pleasant person to interact with.
As many of you know we decided to start our new adventure in La Conner, Washington.
With this being a new adventure,. We were not too sure how we should be doing anything really. So we thought the best thing to do was to conduct a Soft Opening. We essentially opened our doors to customers, but didn't tell anyone. This way we could get a feel for what it is like to operate an actual boutique and to figure out the style the local community of La Conner Washington wants. Which thankfully was a fantastic success.
There are a few very valuable piece of information that we learned during our first week. I thought it would be fun and helpful to share what I learned with any of you who want to start your own boutique/business.
Know Your Payment System!
This is an absolute must I wish we would have spent more time practicing before opening the doors to our little shop. All I can say is that the community here in La Connor WA is very kind and patient. In the days leading up to our first day, I was just so confident that it wouldn't be that hard to figure out. I was wrong. I should have practiced before hand. Even now we have been open for about a week and I still feel slightly uncomfortable with the system. I recommend that you practice until it becomes second nature to you.
Learning Your Customer Base.
I knew when we decided to open our first location that are online market may not transfer over to our physical location. That was one of the reasons why I decided on the Soft Opening. Even though I feel like we are still in the early stages of a startup we have been in business for over a year. The styles of clothing that we sell online. We have now figure out do not do so well in La Connor. In essence we have to start from scratch in order to build a loyal customer base here. If you ever find yourself in the same position like us. From trying to move an online boutique to a physical location boutique. Make sure to take the time to figure out the general style of your local community. This will help you stock your racks with things you know they are going to like and want.
Fashion Style Changes!
I doesn't matter what high fashions says or what is considered trendy. You should wear what you want to. Fashion is decided within the community you live in. Think about the typical Washingtonian. Now think about the style of clothes someone in Texas would wear. I have lived in both places and trust me. They are completely different. During our Soft Opening we were able to learn what the community of La Connor, Washington wanted. Our store will still carry the same things we were carrying before. However if you are able to stop by both. You will notice that the style of clothing you can find in our La Connor store is fairly different from what we carry online. We just want the community t o feel comfortable walking into our store and know that they can always find something they like.
Know How To Read Your Sales!
The sales you make during a soft opening have quite a bit of information in them. Each transaction tells you a bit about your potential loyal customer base. Which is why you should know what information to look for. For Thavin & Marcob we looked at a few different things
1) Which brands were moving.
2) What price point attracted the most positive attention.
3) Styles that were most favored.
4) Where our shoppers were from, Local or Tourists.
Those four questions were answered with every sale we made and helped to created an amazing amount of useful information. We were able to take that information and use it to help us grow into the store front we want to be.
Thavin & Marcob is a place where you are celebrated for being you!
