Happy Monday Everyone!
As many of you know we started an adventure Friday on our Instagram account. I am enjoying the adventure, but please bear with me. Sometimes I get caught up in the fun and forget to capture the moment with a photo. I love to just live in the moment and while I do. I still do appreciate the moments I did remember to capture to look back on and remember the fun times I have had with my family.
Recently I have noticed that there tends to be some misconception of what it means to adventure. The basic meaning of the word and even its most complex definition is really up to you. Even though the word dose have a set definition and obvious activities that qualify. At the end of the day it is you who decides what it means and what activities qualify as an adventure. For me adventure is moving out of my comfort zone. Seeing the world around me and experiencing all that it has to offer. Adventure involves letting myself experience something new, silly, crazy, or even introducing something I love with someone I love. Adventure more or less for me is a feeling more than an activity. It is the feeling of wonderment, excitement, curiosity, and pure happiness.
Below I have complied a list of the 7 most common misconceptions about adventure.
Adventures do not just have to happen in exotic places. Nor do you need to be in such a place to have an adventure. While you can have wonderful and amazing adventure in places like Thailand or Brazil. They and other exotic countries do not solely hold the rights for you to have an adventure. Your next adventure might just be within driving distance from where your at right now. It could even be a bike ride away.
*Explore a local park*
Any adventures can be expensive if you want. However not every adventure has to have you spending big bucks. Having a picnic in the park with friends can be an adventure. Even a walk through town can be an adventure. Activities like this can/are referred to using the term Mini-Adventures.
Adventures Require Vacation Time
Mini-Adventures are still true adventures. They are the activities that are not included in your ordinary or normal day. For example stopping for Ice Cream at your local Ice Cream shop can be an adventure. Even heading out for a nature walk can be an adventure.
*Spend a day touring a neighboring town*
You Have to go With Friends
Adventures are always fun when friends are included, but you can adventure on your own. Spending time with yourself is always good for the soul and sometimes it is necessary in order to keep your sanity. So don't think that just because you are by yourself that means you can't adventure or that hat you are doing is not an adventure.
You Have To Travel Far From Home
Adventure is always waiting right outside your door. You don't have to travel far to have an adventure. Try being a tourist in your own hometown. Visit local landmarks, museums, or even ride our bike around town.
Adventures Can't Happen Everyday
I remember Everyday Adventures being pretty big a few years ago. I'm not too sure if it still is, but I do suggest that everyone try it at least for a week. This is the perfect way to encourage Mini-Adventures. It also helps to boost your creative side because you get to create your own adventure everyday. All you have to keep in mind is that it is an activity outside of your regular daily schedule.
It's A Mental Thing
Adventures are all about how you look at life. It is not only about what kind of activities qualify, but about the feelings that capture you when your are doing it. If riding your bike on a windy day gives you the sense of wonderment or exhilaration. Then you my friend are on an adventure. Even if you find yourself riding you bike a few days a week. This still counts because of the way you feel when your are riding. The key to having an adventure is all about how you see yourself in that moment. It is about how you feel. An adventure is not just an activity if is a frame of mind that you can have any where at any time and with anyone. Adventure can be in your backyard at 6 AM, in a restaurant at 2PM, or at the beach at 12 AM. Adventure is always in reach. You just have to be willing to grab it.
