I know that we all experience those unexpected and pesky OFF days. You know the days that sneak up on you when you have the most to do it seems. These are the days were everything that can go wrong dose and everything that can't go wrong seems to. I know I am not the only one who will agree that these types of days are the worst. When one of these pesky OFF days sneaks up on me I find myself just wanting to go straight back to bed. This way my OFF day will end and new-improved day can begin. Even though sleep is always my first solution when it come to combating a dreadful OFF day. It sometimes can not be the solution especially when you have things that need to get done that day or when you have a family that needs you to be awake. When such circumstances arise I have quite a few things that I like to do to ease my stress and calm me. Hopefully my list will help you when the unfortunate OFF day makes an appearance in your busy life.
The first thing that I do and that I recommend you do as well, is to simply breath. Taking a few deep, steady, calming breathes helps me to lower my heart rate, and to clear my head. I find that just taking a few deep breaths outside is exponentially helpful. The fresh air, sunshine, and simple sounds of nature. Do truly help to relax me and help to remind me to slow down and approach my tasks tactically rather than furiously. If you find yourself getting frustrated because something is not going your way. Instead of forcing it to bend to your will. Try stepping back, taking a breath, and approaching it with a clear mind.
One of the things I am most guilty of is micromanaging. I have a hard time letting go of all of the control. I believe this is because I have worked so hard to get where I am that I do not want anyone to mess it up. Which is silly logic on my part because everyone I work with is more than capable of producing work that this company and I are both extremely proud of. When an OFF day makes an appearance in my schedule this characteristic really shines through. I tend to hover, critique, and annoy all of those around me. When such things start to happen I like to take a moment and remind myself that I work with very capable and accomplished people and that there is no need to micromanage. If you also find yourself in a similar predicament when you are having an OFF day. I suggest you try the same thing I do. I find that I really help to calm not only myself sown, but also calms the people I work with as well.
TAKE A BREAK
Never underestimate the value of a quick brain break. When the going gets really tough. I like to take 20 - 25 minutes to myself. In this amount of time I like to take a nice little walk outside. I also like to meditate sometimes. I find that either of these two help to keep my head on straight for the remainder of the day. They also help me to not over stress. I find that when I try to force progress or success. I only end up hurting myself and end up exploding from being over stressed and frustrated. Try giving yourself a little recess during your OFF day. Trust me is helps a ton.
JUST KEEP GOING
Like I said before, the one thing that I want to do most when I have an OFF day is to go back to bed. However this helps no one especially not yourself. When obstacles present themselves the best advice anyone can give you is "Just Keep Going". When the going gets tough you have to stand your ground and continue to work towards your goals. You won't achieve much of anything if you simply sit down when the road gets too bumpy. I like to remind myself to keep on trying even if it results in failure because every failure has a valuable lesson and a valuable piece of information that will help you to succeed later.
