I'm big on wearing sunscreen at all times. There however are times when I am just having too much fun and I forget to reapply. While those days tend to be the ones I have the most fun out in the sun. They are also the days I end up with the worst sunburn. Through the years I have discovered through different avenues the best ways to treat a sunburn at home. So in honor of Summer and the beautiful sunny days upon us. I thought that I would share my top 5 at home remedies for treating a sunburn. Treatment #1 Aloe Vera GelThat bottle filled with the green slimy stuff suddenly becomes my best friend when I realize I have a sunburn. It helps to cool my burning skin. As well as to help hydrate my sunburned skin. Treatment #2 Cool BathsOne well known fact about me is I am a baby when it comes to pain. So even a minor sunburn feels like I just rolled around on hot coals. One thing that I have found takes the pain away relatively quickly and feels just absolutely amazing on my burned skins. Is a nice cold water bath. I like to take a cold bath verses a cold shower because I can fully immerse my body in the cold water. However cold showers I feel will also help relive away some of the pain for you. Treatment #3 CompressionsTry a cool compress on your sunburn. I love that instant AHHH feeling that is so generously accompanied with any ice pack. I even end up sleeping with one. I find that it helps me get through the night without waking up due to discomfort. Treatment #4 RehydrateOne thing that I know about my body is that if I ever have a sunburn I can also guarantee that I am dehydrated. So one thing that I make sure to do while trying to treat a sunburn is to drink lots of water. Treatment #5 LotionOnce my burn has started to heal I do my absolute best to keep my skin form peeling. The last step in my treatment plan for sunburns is to apply lotion to my skin often. I make sure to apply at least every 4-5 hours. This helps hydrate my skin and helps my skin not to peel. My personal go to sunburn rehydrating lotion is an organic lavender lotion, but I'm sure any moisturizing lotion will do the trick. There you have it, my top 5 Sunburn at Home Treatments.
