The rising generation of millennials is growing in numbers and influence all over the world and thus changing it from every relevant aspect. The global economy is being shaped by their lifestyle preferences and their priorities, which are all much different from their predecessors, baby boomers. The same goes for the fickle fashion and beauty world, which they have not only changed due to their buying habits, but also their authentic self-expression.
They are the epitome of trend-setting, bringing high-end fashion from the runway and straight to the streets, and vice versa, daringly breaking every fashion rule there is and creating a whole new image around the idea of beauty.
1. Fashion is meant to last

In the era almost ruled by fast fashion, millennials have decided to take a different route. First of all, they strive to invest in their needs and their personal taste, thus creating a trend of buying clothes that they intend to use for years to come, and that resonate with their unique personality. Instead of filling their closets with unnecessary clothing pieces they would wear only once, they aim to create a personal look-book that is both practical and stylish
2. They are rule-breakers

Although they are aware of the existing norms and societal expectations, millennials like to experiment outside of the given lines. That is why they use makeup as yet another way of expressing their charisma, and they tend to support brands that encourage this freedom of expression. A few bold eyeshadow colors or a stunning lipstick that will set them apart from the crowd and they are more than happy with their limited, but valuable makeup selection for every occasion
3. They appreciate a natural look

No matter how much they are eager to play with colors, shapes and textures in fashion and beauty, the greatest inspiration for their every trend will be their tendency to promote a natural, pure look. This means that the primary color palette will be soft, inconspicuous and gentle, if they decide to wear any makeup at all. And since they also seek purpose in their items of choice, a mineral lip moisturizer with all-natural ingredients will be their go-to makeup accessory to complement their clean, nourished appearance.
4. They value individuality

In everything in life, and fashion is no exception! Millennials are eager to explore their true selves before settling for a clothing item. A T-shirt is no longer just a piece of material serving a purpose – every single item in their wardrobe is a statement piece. Whether those are ripped jeans, sophisticated crop tops or an everyday pair of socks, they put thought into their every purchase. It could be a classic brand or a completely new name on the market, they will wear it with pride as long as it reflects their true identity. They often opt for online shopping, especially in parts of the world such as Australia, and their expectations are high, they expect nothing less than the next day deliveries in Sidney, for example.
5. They are conscientious buyers

The name of a brand matters only to the extent of its effort to provide quality, and a promise of a unique contribution. No marketing effort can trump the reviews and recommendations millennials diligently check, and they always make sure to know the core values of the brand they will wear. In addition to supporting local designer brands, they are eager to contribute to charities, raise awareness and protect the environment with every purchase.
6. They prefer reliability

In addition to long-lasting clothing items, millennials are keen on using beauty products that will not let them down on a night out, during a job interview or a daily office meeting. These products are not meant to merely look pretty but last briefly, so they would rather shop for a more durable brand than have a whole collection of different items. A trusty nail polish and a durable pair of shoes will always be every millennial’s must-haves as opposed to ten pairs of footwear and a whole makeup kit.
If anything, millennials are in fact changing the world of fashion and beauty for the better with their eco-friendly, authentic ways, as they base their choices on their core values and inspire everyone around them to be true to their natural beauty and express their unique self.
