Life gets hectic and busy. One day you're making dinner and helping with homework the next you look up and can't remember the last time you had time alone to just breathe. When you have a family, a house, and a career it is really easy to lose yourself getting caught up in the daily to-do lists. I have been in that scenario time and time again. While I always have love for my family, I also needed to remember the importance there was in taking a step back to decompress. For if I didn't I would turn into a frantic crazy mess that no one likes talking to because I am full of arguments and that oh so beloved phrase of, "because I said so". While I know it can be a challenge on to itself, self-care is one of those things in life that you should never overlook as a frivolous task meant for people who can't handle their day to day obligations. Self-care is a great way to help ease yourself both physically and mentally so that you remain true to yourself and happy.
You are a unique and wonderful individual that deserves to be celebrated. You deserve time to yourself to decompress. The best part is that even if you find family, home, and career seem to occupy all of your time. , in reality, doesn't require a big show or fancy dinner to help.
If you're needing some inspiration here are five tips that I use time and time again when life gets busy and I need to celebrate my unique self with some self-care.
1. You Don't Need an Hour
If you can squeeze out an hour then yes you should use up every second of that hour. However, scheduling is its own beast especially with a family so instead of telling yourself you need an hour for some self-care just try for 15 minutes. This will take the pressure off of you mentally and it is a whole lot easier to schedule 15 minutes than it is to schedule an hour.
2. Simple Is Okay
You don't need a lot of stuff to accomplish a little self-care. It can be something small, and simple.
For example, if you're a tea drinker. Your self-care moment can be as simple as experiencing the routine of making a simple cup of tea without rushing through it. If you're into beauty and skin care then you know what feels amazing and is relaxing a warm steaming washcloth spread out on my face. Maybe it's just a short walk down the driveway taking in some fresh air and the world around you. The point of self-care is to give yourself a mental break to just simply be.
Allowing your self 15 minutes for some self-care and checking your social accounts does not really work. In order for yourself to truly unwind and decompress you do need to unplug. It's helpful to close out the world for just a second, to clear your mind of everything happing around you. Be in the present and in the moment.
4. Remember It's Okay
It's okay to take time for you. It's okay to walk away from the kids, PTA meeting,
etc... It's okay to be you and take time to take care for you.
5. Do You
Don't buy into the mindset that you have to do it all. No one can so rather than beat yourself up over the impossible, find joy and success in the now and in what you can do.
We all need me time, we all need a break, we all need a little self-care!
