I've been on the internet for a while now and one thing that I see pop up time and time again are videos, articles, and photos of makeup that involve a technique referred to as contouring. I've found peoples work beautiful, but it was not until I watched a video of an elderly lady being contoured that my interest was really grasped. ln this short little video she was able to remove 25 years from her face effortlessly. I was not only captivated, but bound and determined to learn how to do it myself. As you know my Wedding Renewal Ceremony is coming up and I would love nothing more than to be able to shed a few years off with a little makeup.

So I watched video after video. I read all the blogging articles I could find, trying to understand how contouring was to be done, how it worked, what the goal for the look was etc....
I was determined to take off 10 years and I was absolutely positive contouring was going to be the answer!

We research and inspiration done. I grabbed my purse and planned my trip to Sephora.
I was honestly so excited. Contouring was the new magic I had seen it time and time again online. It was going to take years off my face. I enjoy makeup, but it is not something I wear all of the time nor is it something I really experiment with. I know what I like and I do what I like. This is great, but it does develop a pattern or routine that I follow time and time again. Which like anything can get old after awhile. This new adventure sparked both excitement and nervousness in me all at once.

When I made it to Sephora a contouring pallet was the first thing I searched for. It was perfect it had a variety of colors so I was for certain it would work with my skin tone.
After I added a few more very fun new things to my basket. I headed towards the register to pay for my fun new makeup products.
After I payed I asked the sales clerk if she would find someone to help demonstrate to me how to use the contouring pallet.
The staff were very polite and helpful. I was lead to a chair that was in front of a large lighted mirror. The makeup artist then demonstrated the technique of contouring. She showed me where to place the products and what colors would work best for me.
Did you know that I am in my early 40s?
I am and here I find myself fin Sephora excitedly sitting in this makeup chair in front of a large lighted mirror. Happily awaiting to absorb the knowledge of the technique of contouring form this wonderful makeup artist. I can't help, but think, "This is going to Change my Makeup Routine Forever. I'm going to Look Younger and just Look Fabulous at my Renewal Ceremony."

The pallet opens up, the different brushes that should be used are explained to me, and then she starts...
Mix a little bit of this color with a little bit of this color and place it here under your cheek bones...
Yes Literally WTF...
Did I really just spend $55.00 on a New Age Skill?
I Did … Well Played Marketing World
I fell for it, I fell for it.
Shame on me for getting wrapped up in all the changes and not seeing it for what it is.
My 70 year old aunts know how to contour. In fact my mother taught me how to do it when I was a teenager wearing makeup for the first time.
It's the process of mixing your brown eye shadow with a lighter color and placing it under the line of your check bone and then placing that line of blush...
remember the final step of blushing is to blend it...
That Ladies and Gentlemen is Contouring!
How I missed that I have no idea, but I did.
Don't get me wrong I'm loving my new pallet. The colors are wonderful and I love the way is blends into my skin. I do however wished that I would have realized what it was when I was looking at it in the store. If I would have registered what the technique was and how it is just being marketed differently. I probably would have tried contouring a long time ago or rather started to contour again.
If you find yourself in my age range and are debating whether or not contouring is for you and if maybe it is something only the young girls should be doing. Do Not Fear or Be Hesitant because you do know how to contour and have probably done it even if only once.
So while my new adventure was more of a trip of nostalgia. It was still nice to take a trip down memory lane. This adventure reminded me to be more open to the idea of things that may scare me and to really pay attention to how things are being marketed.

Everyone has those days that seem never ending and leave you completely exhausted. When days like that occur to me. I like to take the time to pamper my tired self. I find that with a little TLC I find myself refreshed and rejuvenated. Ready to conquer the next busy day that lies ahead.
The first thing I like to do is take a Hot Shower or Bath. I specifically like to take a Hot Shower/Bath for two very important reasons. The first is that the hot water helps to relax my achy and tired muscles. Which after a long and busy day is always welcomed. The second reason I choose to shower hot vs warm/cold. Is because the hot steam helps to open up my pores. Which is incredibly essential as my pampering routine continues. After my pores have had time to open up from the steam. I then like to washing my face with a Cleaning Gel.
Once out of the shower. I make sure to pat my face dry. I make it a point to pat my face dry because through this motion you apply less stress and tension to the skin which prevents premature fine lines and wrinkles. After my face is dry I like to go ahead and cover my face in a mask. The two that I tend to use the most are a Dead Sea Mud Mask or a Red Clay Exfoliating Mask. I love to use either mask in combination with a Liquid Black Mask. I like to place that mask strictly over my nose so it acts like a pore strip.
After the appropriate time has been waited and I take off the chosen mask. I then will go in and Tone my skin. As well as apply oils, serums, and moisturizes. Since this is a routine I tend to do at night I will use a heavy moisturizer to help ensure my skin stays hydrated through the night.
Once my Face has been pampered and care for. I will make a nice hot cup of coffee or tea. I tend to enjoy this while I either paint my nails or read a book.
My Favorite Pampering Nightly Routine is nothing fancy or extravagant, but it is a routine that I swear by. It never fails to relax me and make me feel rejuvenated/refreshed.

When my kids were small Spa Days were far and few between. There was always someone that needed to be somewhere or something that needed to be done right away. Now that my children are older, I am fortunate enough to be able to visit the Spa more often than I ever would have dreamed.
The entire family takes apart and contributes to help run and maintain ThavinMarcob. It is by no means a one woman show. This plus considering my children are older, and that our La Conner Boutique is across from a Salon and Spa. The stars aligned so perfectly that I was able to get an no fuss facial. Which is hands down one of the best facials to get. No one likes to feel like they have to plan and maneuver their pampering days. Pampering days are about relaxing and taking time to treat yourself.
I made an appointment at Forever Young Hair and Spa.
Cat the owner took the time to look over my skin. Took the time to learn about what I wanted to achieve. She then provided her own professional insight about how best to achieve my skin goals. All in all it was one of the most relaxing facials I have ever had! Cat recommended starting with a pumpkin peel. I've never had a peel let alone a pumpkin one. So the experience was new and interesting, not to mention exciting and extremely relaxing. After the treatment, I'm not lying when I say my skin felt amazing.
If you guys are close to La Conner. Forever Young Hair and Spa is located just across from Our Boutique.
It is actually her Birthday Today. Everyone from the ThavinMarcob Family Wishes you a Well and Happy Birthday! We Hope you not only have a Great Day, but an Amazing Year.

When I was growing up my mom was full of Old Wives Tales. I swear she had one for every situation at any given moment and loved to share them with me. They would just slip off her tonged without a thought. Today I caught myself repeating one! No, really I said it and as soon as the words left my moth I cringed because damit I sounded just like my mom! So today's Blog Post is a list of Hair Myths curtesy of my mom!
Brush Your Hair 100 Times
Especially if you have curly cues like I do. You take the chance of causing your hair stress which can lead to unwanted Breakage.
If you wear that Hat for too Long
Your hat is not going to determine if you go bald or not.
Wash Your Hair Everyday
Okay I know that it is unnecessary and unhealthy to wash your hair everyday. However, if I'm being honest here, I have a hard time not washing my hair everyday. I just think that my hair feels too gross to not wash everyday. So my mom did win on this one, but if you can help it. Do not wash your hair everyday. Washing your hair strips it of its natural and healthy oils that your hair needs to be strong. So skip the shampoo and conditioner and give your hair the love it wants.
If you Pull Out Gray Hair
Yeah I'm not really sure how this was a logical assumption. Yet it is a saying and one that I heard pretty often. It however, like everything else on this list is a Myth. Therefore No pulling out a gray hair does not make two more appear!
Hot oil will Cure Split Ends
I'm not sure what my moms fascination is with hot oil, but it is her go to when I complain about split ends. The truth however as heartbreaking as it is, is that there is no remedy or special treatment to rectify your Split Ends. The only thing you can do you have healthy/non-frizzy hair is to just trim them off.
What were some of the Old Wives Tales or Myths that your family told you growing up? I would love to hear.
While the First Official Day of Winter is Not for Some Time Now. With the Passing of Thanksgiving and the Welcoming of December it is Never Too Early to Get Ahead of those Annual Winter Time Skin Problems! This Blog Hopefully Helps Give a Few Hints And Tips on how To Keep Your Skin Healthy and Glowing Throughout Winter.
We welcome winter with open arms – its fresh frost, winds that whisk you away and light sunshine that comforts you with its warmth. All the while, we are also being attacked by our beloved winter winds. What feels beautifully refreshing is wicking away moisture from your skin. With little or no sebaceous glands to moisturize naturally, your cheeks, arms, and legs are experiencing the worst of winter. Your skin is left dry and cracked, sometimes to the point of bleeding. Winter is raging battle when your skin is at its most vulnerable. With the lack of moisture in the outdoor air, and artificial heat indoors taking away what was left, action is desperately in need.
While the rest of you is frolicking in winter wonders, your skin should not be left behind. Give your skin the armor it deserves by following the few simple, but significant steps listed below.
Wash with Lukewarm Water
Steaming showers are a tempting refuge from the winter. We douse ourselves with hot water at every chance we get, enjoying the warmth that travels within us, unaware of the damage it does to our skin. Hot water is robbing our skins of whatever moisture is left within it. Next time you are tempted to take a long shower with hot water pouring down your face, think of the aftermath of such dangerous comforts. Take moderate-temperature showers for shorter periods of time, giving special treatment to areas where the skin is thinnest – like your hands.
Reach for Moisturizer, Stat!
Whenever your skin is damp, the moment is ripe for locking in the moisture. Keep up your moisturizing habits especially right after you have been in contact with water. Applying moisturizer while your skin is still moist allows it to seep in and seal itself in order to bear against the biting, moisture-empty air.
What else is preventing your skin from getting the soft and sleek feel it deserves? It is the layer of dead cells that is now barricading the entrance of moisture. Do not let dead skin cells form layers over your skin, especially on areas such as your hands, so that the extensive moisturizing efforts you do put in go to waste. Go ahead and try an exfoliating mask or body wash, and apply moisturizer right after to treat the problem from all ends.
Make sure you do not skimp out on your water intake thinking no sweat, no worries. We tend to replace our water bottles with tea flasks as winter approaches. The heat we gain comes at the price of the hydration we lose. Remember to maintain a healthy intake of water, and remember, if you are thirsty then you are already dehydrated.
It’s not just water. You can maintain a healthy level of hydration by consuming water-rich fruits, such as watermelons, apples, kiwis, and cucumbers. Make sure your diet is rich of fatty fish and omega-3 supplements to give your skin a soft and vibrant look.
Use the longer winter nights to take special care of your skin. Develop a nighttime moisturizing routine. The nights give you longer hours to lock in the moisture, which you can seal with
trusty socks and gloves.
Lastly remember to avoid impostors in the moisturizer world that are made of petroleum based products, they are doing worse to your skin than you imagine!
It does not take much more than some vigilance on what your skin goes through to make sure that you sport soft and supple skin all year round. Do not allow the winter to chip away at your skin. Buy your stock of oil-based, natural moisturizers, make your own skin-care routine, and then with a few simple steps, you are enjoying that winter glow all over.

While the Official First Day of Winter is still quite some time away. It is never too early to start Protecting your Hair from the Harsh and Chilling Cold of the ending months to 2017. Our Healthy Winter Hair Blog hopefully helps give each of you some ideas on how to Help Care for your Hair in the Colder Months.
Before you head out dressed to the nines in your fall and winter apparel, enjoying the sweater weather, all worries whisked away by the winter wind, think about the breeze that is swaying your hair. What is it doing to your hair health? What is it taking away? The winter winds are notorious for taking away moisture from exposed parts of your body, and while the cracks in our skins may take up first priority, we are also sacrificing the moisture that keeps your hair looking smooth and silky, with that natural bounce that you spend all year tending to, do not forget your hair now.
Do not just go ahead and let the winter take a swing at your hair. Protect it against Mother Nature. Wearing a winter hat or an adorable beanie will not only complete your winter look, but it will also play the double role of saving the moisture in your hair too.
There is, of course, still the problem of your sweat and static build up. There are a couple of solutions you can try out for that. You could wrap your hair in a silk scarf before putting on the beanie to reduce the static created. You could even switch out wool for cotton headwear which is much less electric than its fired up pal, wool.
…with your conditioning. Your scalp no longer produces the essential oil you need to keep your hair well hydrated, so now it is up to you to simulate oil natural scalp oils. Treat yourself to a deep-conditioning session at least once a week to bring back some of that moisture lost. You could also comb some vitamin E through your hair to replace the natural scalp oils once produced to treat your scalp that may be irritated and full of static due to the lack of moisture. Using brushes with natural bristles also help spread oil produced in the scalp to the volume of your hair and are less conductive of static.
Cut It Short
A common practice most of us indulge in in the winter months is the practice of steaming showers that run for ages until we are soaked in the comfort of the heat. As tempting as they may be, remember they are the enemy of your hair. They are stripping away the little moisture your hair boasts and leave it dry and ruined. Cut down on the time you spend in the shower and dial down the heat levels. Showering with moderate-temperature water, if not cold, is the way to go when it comes to sporting healthy hair.
Don’t Throw Caution to the Wind
…and expose your wet hair to it, either. Do not leave the house with hair that is still wet post-shower. The moisture in your hair will collude with the cold air to leave your hair brittle and dry.
The Deal with Artificial Heating
The air indoors becomes welcoming and warm with artificial heating, but it also sneaks away with the moisture in your hair. So it may be alarming but we recommend a humidifier. It is reasonable to conjure up images of humidity and the inevitable frizz that comes with it, but in an environment that has even less moisture than the winter air due to artificial heating, a humidifier might just be your best friend. Invest in a humidifier to retain the moisture in your hair and skin without getting rid of the warm and cozy abode you have created for yourself.
Perhaps it is time to experiment with the all-natural look. Leave your hair wild, without the fancy blow-dry styling or the straightening or curling iron treatment. It is also time to try out the adorable headwear winter brings with itself. Perhaps it is also time for that trim you were considering, eliminating the split ends and strengthening your hair this winter. Let winter come, your hair will power through with all its glory.

Fall & Winter sets in, the skies seem bluer and sunshine falls upon the world like gold. The seasons apparel comes out and the air smells of festivity, warmth, and cocoa. The world shifts towards a mood that everyone enjoys. The start of fall & winter paints beautiful pictures of snow, frost, and happiness. Whether it is within snow globes or the world around us, there is renewed and refreshing beauty for all of us to bathe in. We prepare ourselves to be a picture of winter wonderland, our aesthetic matching the delicately giddy weather around us.
In these festivities, let us don the trendiest nail colors from deep reds to captivating charcoals, changing our style symbols as the times change too.
Deep, Velvety Maroon
Go to town with a look that is riveting and rich at the same time. This winter try out rich tones such as deep maroon to pair with the darker winter apparel you opt for.
Come daringly close to black with a sleek metallic look of chrome, grey, or charcoal. Nothing says sophisticated like a color so captivating.
Go for a blue that has so much depth, it borders on becoming purple -- nothing like a rich cold tone to mirror the winter lightness all around.
Winter is characterized by its soft hues against sharp whites. Brighten up your look with a delicate pink-red lit up with smooth gold overtones, mixing royal with the softness of an innocent pink.
The unexpected merger between the glitz and glamour of glitter and the deep and dark of cranberry red makes the shade of metallic berries that is so dangerously rich, it is red.
What is more festive than a popping red like cherry on cake? Liberate your spirits and bring color to your life by choosing a cherry red color that adds that necessary splash of vibrant in your winter backdrop.
Wear green that is so smooth, that it reminisces of spring in winter. A deep green coats your nails with a finish that is polished and posh. With no speck of glitter, it is as significant as simple can get.
Go for a duo-chrome look that blends two savvy shades, giving you that electric blue speckled with the neon green. This gives your look a vibrant touch that emanates a deeply underground vibe.
Another interesting shade to try out is the elegance of an eggplant purple, that is almost bright in how deeply rich it is. Try out a tone that is bold and bright with this stark shade of plum this winter.
Go all out with your holiday spirit in glitter and glamour of sparkling silver. This shade is silver with the mix of bright stars that set your look apart from the fade of winter. There is no statement more brave than one that is made with the mix of glitter and silver.
This Fall & Winter, wear a shade of gold that is as rich as its royal origins. A fiery and festive warm shade will bring together any pastel winter apparel you pull together to be the winter sun this season.
Do you want to hold on to the autumn shades and delve into Christmas at the same time? This shade is for you. With a bronze finish, this unruly shade of red brings shimmer to your reliable reds, reviving the winter spirit.
Who says greys are too faded to bring color to your life? Add a little grey to your blues to create a light-blue mix with teal shade that is unique to a smoky winter vibe.
