There has never been a mind where the thought of quitting, throwing in the towel, or tossing up their hands and screaming, "I am done" has not mercilessly swept across their brain. I know that the daunting appeal of just calling it quits has racked its way through my mind more than once. With such familiarity and strong ties the grander question of when is quitting justified arises.
When does it change from afraid, lazy, or scared, to reasonable, logical, and the best move for the moment. One can not help but to feel like the necessary progression towards your idea of whole picture success feels at times like you don't have what it takes to make it. If you take the time to take a set back and analyze various contributing factors. Is it okay to quite?
Working along side others does not only posses the sweet emotion of teamwork. It also is a great way to better yourselves, your business, and community. However collaborating is not always easy to do. Each party has to be willing to work with the other giving and taking an appropriate amount along the way. Although at some point you might encounter a situation where working together just doesn't work. The reasons for incompatibility could be numerous. So when the time comes for you to cut ties, don't hesitate because if it is not a collaborative effort then you are not quitting. You are thoughtfully choosing to not work along side someone not because you are afraid of hard work. Rather the collaboration is not mutually beneficial. Remember that a collaboration of any kind needs to be a win in any terms for all participating parties. If you are not receiving what you need form the collaboration it is no longer a true collaboration. Making the act of moving on is not by any means quitting. It is possessing the knowledge to know when your very valuable time, energy, and recourses are being wasted.
We can all be over run with emotions of anger, love, spitefulness, joy, sadness, or fearlessness. Making it not as insane notion to want to quit something when an emotion of any kind takes hold of your heart not relinquishing its grasp. One emotion that can be deadly to a dream is doubt. Doubt can crush even the purest of passions in the split of a second with no remorse. When starting a new venture the emotions of passion, drive, and determination are necessary to get your project off the ground. Although it is important to keep in mind that along side those emotions you need to make sure you have logic and reason on your side to some extend. For if you do not you may find that doubt will encapsulate your whole heart stopping you from ever leaving the ground. If you doubt without logic and reason you may be quitting prematurely. Fear is a feeling that can really stop you dead in your tracks, but if you know the passion is there. Then don't hesitate to turn your dream into a living breathing entity.
Success Didn't Come Over Night
When you're building something great, the sparkly successful final product is not just crafted in a day. Intense amounts of hard work, stress, late nights, and energy goes into creating something worth while. When it comes to the real world hopes and dreams have the power to really take you to some amazing places, but logic and reason are what is going to make you a grand success. It is hard to beautifully mend the two which is why there are countless great things in this world that were not crafted by one being, but rather two, one hundred, or thousands. When you finally take that leap to follow your passion. Not seeing the kind of return that you had dreamed of can be discouraging. I know that I have been there time and time again. Where I have thought about just closing our doors for good because my expectations were not being met when I wanted them to be met. I am someone who loves immediate results, so when those do not happen I end up feeling like a failure. However MaKayla has always been great at explaining to me that everything takes time. Whenever I am feeling down she helps lift my spirits by saying that progressive success is necessary to reach whole picture success. While there have been times where I have heavily considered quitting. I would have been quitting because I was over run with negative emotion. When in actuality there was nothing wrong with what I was doing. I was merely frustrated in the moment. If your finding that you do not feel successful take a step back and evaluate all parts without emotion. If whatever it is has turned into a loss then quitting because you can not tough it out is not the reason.
When Emotion Trumps Logic
This is a place I have visited several times over my lifetime. No matter how much logic and reason I am equipped with the emotions that I feel can still over power, taking a hold of my mind without care. When emotions run ramped and the thoughts of quitting start to circle. I find it helpful to write down all that I am feeling and why. From there I start to stem the reasons that are attached to each.
For instance let's say you handcraft your own kites. Business has been down
for a few months. Which is raising your concern for the business leading to
frustration and stress. If you look at it close up you can say the shop has been underperforming for 4 months now so I should just call it quits and close up. However I encourage you to take an objective look several steps back. Take into account season, the foot traffic you have encountered, the publics economy, your target demographic, advertising, and location.
All of these things and much more can provide a deeper insight into why you might not be selling kites. When looking objectively you might find that it's not your kites that are the problem. It could be the weather. If so then a simple answer of shortening your days or hours of operation could help to ease your frustration and stress. Diminishing that overpowering feeling of decideing to completely quitting.
Not everyone that quits is just giving up, or is not cut out for the hard work involved. Sometimes there are real reasons to where throwing in the towel is the best option.
When is quitting okay in your opinion?
