I grew up in the Northwest where Thrift Shopping is a way of life. It became increasingly popular during the Grudge Years and has really just stuck around. Last week my daughter and I found ourselves on a mission to find Vintage Plaid. Here in the Pacific Northwest Plaid never goes out of style, this I know for sure. With Velvet making its way into most of our closets I thought throwing a little Vintage Plaid over a Velvet outfit would be create a perfect combonation.
THRIFT STORE SHOPPING HAS CHANGED
Gone are the days of finding a Good Bargain or that Ultimate Buy at the Thrift Store. The Pricing that I find at Thrift Stores can be quite Extreme. For instance I have noticed that they ask the Same Prices for things that are Used for something that you could pick up New! This weekend when I went I was shocked when I saw a pair of Jeans (No Special Brand) for $15.00. I know for a fact that I can pick up a New pair of Jeans on clearance at Target for $15.00 and they are New! Why pay the same price for something Used when you can pick it up New?
THE EMPLOYEES ARE ABSOULTY AMAZING
Now I did just complain about the Pricing available at Thrift Stores, but let's be real here. You do have to Pay just a Little Extra for Customer Service. Our experience this last weekend Thrift Store shopping was over the top Excellent! They took the time to have a conversation with us. Letting us know what days to look out for Sales and helping us find the Plaid that we were looking for. It was exceptionally nice of them to stop what they were doing to connect and help us with our Vintage Plaid Mission.
MY SHOPPING EXPIERENCE
We both did find a few pieces to Add into our Wardrobe. We were pretty lucky with our finds and found pieces that still had the original tags on them. However as we were browsing the racks I couldn't help but think that they were asking the same price one would as for that item if it were Brand New. In all reality you won't save any money I believe if you go to a Thrift Store verses a Discount Store.
OF COURSE I WILL GO AGAIN
Although the Shopping Experience as a whole was different tan what I have known as The Thrift Store Experience. There are still Thrift Stores that make some Amazing Contributions to there Community. For that reason of course I will go again. I now just have to change my Expectations and Interpretations of what it is to Thrift Shop.
