I often get asked where I write our blog posts at and how I come up with the topics for our blog posts. What better day than a Fall Wednesday to share with you a behind the scenes look into what we do and how we do it.
That cashier stand you stand at to check out is also my desk. It gets messy and overloaded with paperwork. Sometimes when I'm researching it will have three different devices open at the same time! I find the quite mornings to be the perfect opportunity to write. Writing for me is an outlet for my individuality. It's a way to share who I am with all of you as well as a way to connect with you on a more personal level. It's not just about shopping with us, it's about sharing our passion, sharing our love for the job, and about about getting to know you!
Working From Home
I am extremely fortunate to have the business partners I have. They make down time and days where I work form home possible. If I'm working from home I will usually snuggle up in bed with a cup of coffee and write. Although I much prefer writing long into the night. There's just something about the quite and stillness of night that inspires me to be the best me that I can be. When I can I do take time to read, reading opens my mind to the possibilities around me. It allows for the flow of words to come a little easier and with more clarity. In these moments you might find me curled up on the couch or out in the back porch.
Inspiration is a hard one. I read to open up my mind. While other times I may go for a walk. The truth is that by opening up my mind to any and all possibilities I discover that inspiration is all around me. It is present within a chat with the barista who made my morning coffee. It is within the smile that a stranger gave me as I passed her down the aisle of my local grocery store. It is even sometimes the lack of human interaction that sparks inspiration for me.
With all three of those interactions I find the possibilities endless.
Lets start with The Barista who made my coffee this morning. The shop she works at is not convenient. I have to get out of my car and walk in to grab my daily cup of joe. I make sure that I leave for work early just so that she specifically will make my coffee and here's why. Here is also possible blog topics for me to write about.
1. She has taken the time to get to know me
2. She has taken the time to let me get to know her.
3. She knows my drink
Taken those thoughts I can come of with Article Titles
1. 5 Ways to stay motivated in a job you love
2. What does fantastic customer service look like?
3. tips and tricks to keep you going even when you don't want too
It's a 5 minute interaction at best. She's really fast and amazing at her job.
So it never takes very long yet here she is my inspiration!
The lady who smiled at me as I walked down the aisle of the grocery store is an inspiration. It was a passing gesture, something that was polite, sweet and very endearing.
What inspiration can you find within that 10 second interaction with a total stranger who has probably long forgotten you?
Well here's what subjects come to me when I really get down and think about it.
1. What The power of a smile can accomplish
2. 10 ways to share love with the world around you
3. Its always the small things that create the biggest impact
That was maybe 10 seconds you guys. It was a quick pass in an aisle. Yet that smile has the ability to be an inspiration. So smile and be someone's inspiration for today!
Yesterday I was scrolling down liking pictures from our Instagram family and I saw a small trend. It's nothing to drastic and one I noticed probably because I am a mom, but I noticed that lots of parents where sharing pictures of their children. Some of these pictures had the kids dressed in school uniforms. Some of these school uniforms had the names of the schools on them and some of those post had the name of their children on them. See where I'm going with this? I personally believe that is quite a bit of personal information about your child to be putting out there. I love posts about families, I love that people are willing to share there small and large happy moments with me. However my concern for what I believe to be mistakenly oversharing of personal information sparked a few ideas.
1. How to safe Gard your child's identity while sharing pics
2. 10 tips for Online safety for families
3. Why I chose not to allow my children to have a Facebook Account
The majority of my articles don't actually get published. I find that after I write up a draft I either do not like it or I think that it doesn't make sense for our platform. So I choose to toss it in the recycling bin and continue forth.
Inspiration is all around me and it sparks in the most unlikely of scenarios.
The majority of our topics for our articles are from our everyday life. It is something we saw, experienced, or something that held some kind of meaning to us.
What situations spark inspiration for you?
I love sharing with you guys!
