Personally prepping for the holidays is something that our house has made tradition.
We like to use this time to rummage through our old things, deciding what stays and what goes. For most the holidays welcome the new. Which can also spark feelings of overwhelming or crowdedness. Over the years we have slowly started to push up the time frame to which we make sure to declutter our lives in order for the new to stay and feel relaxed. Currently we find that the end of November the start of December to be the perfect time for us.
Seeing as we know we can't be the only ones out there that feel the holidays seems to not only fill you with joy, but overstuff your house. We thought that it would be a great idea to share our beloved tips and tricks that we use with you.
Some fabrics just hold onto smells unlike any other. It's just one of those facts of life to anyone's wardrobe. For instance I recently had to let go of one of my favorite junky tee shirts because the smell of coconut sunblock would just not wash out. So if it has just been through the wash and is smelling a little funky then it's got to go.
I am hard on my fashions! It's not a secret I want my clothes to go where ever that day's adventure may take me. Which sometimes means the trees help myself weed out the bad stitching from the strong durable ones. While your cleaning out your closet remove all those items you know are well beyond repair. It may sting your little fashion loving heart, but keep in mind that it is helping to make room for the new.
Everyday our experiences change us. We grow in different ways, in different direction, into someone we may not have been last year. That doesn't mean that who we were last year is an awful person, she was just a person who was in a different place. Growing as a person tends to affect our outlook on fashion. What we may have been madly in love with last year, just may not be something your completely comfortable with now. May be bitter sweet, but it's time to let those well worn gems go.
Decluttering your closet can be quite trying at times. You may find as you move down the rack that you are a lot more emotionally attached to your fashions than you think. Which is totally fine and nothing to be ashamed of or feel that you and your 60 beloved knitted sweaters are lifers together. I do know the pain of parting with something before it's time. So I do highly recommend that if you face any hesitation or doubt when it comes to letting go. First try placing them in a box and storing it. If a month or two goes by and your mind never even has a thought of missing them. Then yes by all means get rid of them, but if a month goes by and your heart can't stop thinking of how to pair it with the latest trend. No one's watching, pull it back out and rock it. Our holiday spruce up is about making room for the new, but never about abandoning the old.
Happy Monday Everyone!
