Thanks to the comedian Jimmy Kimmel we now have a theoretically
no judgment National Unfriend Day.
National Unfriend Day started in 2014 so don't freak if you didn't know it existed. While there are all sorts of media users. I know that I can't be the only one who doesn't like to have the cousin of a friend of a friend or a friend's ex boyfriend on my personal Facebook page. So if you're like me or if you just think that its about time you clean up your media. Then you might find National Unfriend Day to be extremely handy and just the nudge you need.
Here are 7 steps that I like to follow.
I personally like to grab a bottle of wine and pour myself big glass.
Sometimes I find that I need a little liquid courage to unfriend some of my random relatives.
I like to write up a creative little post vaguely giving answer to the necessary purge.
My go to is simply that I am taking a break from the internet,
One my post is written and my first glass is done. I pour myself a second and begin to unfriend.
The trick is to be quick. If you have to take time to think about why they should stay or feel the need to justify their Facebook friendship then they don't need to really be there.
Once I gone really fast through my list and clicked away the obvious people. I find it is now time for glass number 3 because the next step is to get rid of people who are more negative than positive.
Negatively is overrated and you can definitely do without. If when thinking about someone, you can't really think of many good qualities or if they make you feel bad/question yourself. Then you are probably safe with the decision to unfriend.
Now that I have gone through my list twice now. The first a click frenzy and the second a negative
nancy dump. It is now time to move onto the people who you just don't connect with. This in particular to mean means people with just outrageous opinions that I really could care less to hear. One of my biggest pet peeves is someone commenting on things when they refuse to educate themselves with all sides. So glass number 4 in I click away all the stuck up silly little people that I do not really connect with.
Now that all of the unfriending has been done. I find it helpful to take a step back and relish in your purge. I find this the perfect time to wind down from all the excitement and go to bed.
With a good night sleep under your belt and sober eyes. It is now a good time to look over your friends list and see if maybe you made mistake unfriending your grandmother.
It's up too you how intense you want to interpret Nation Unfriends Day.
Unfriend that random girl you met in a bar 4 years ago or go in and unfriend your annoying cousin who you just don't like.
It can be scary, but you got this.
