Last week I walked into my overstaffed closet and had a total freak out. I couldn't find anything to wear. Which is entirely impossible since I had clothes falling on me as I was shifting through them. Did I mention that I own a boutique. See it's impossible for me to have that feeling of nothing to wear! My closet was a jungle, there was literally no room for one more article of clothing. Even though Spring is still a month away I felt now was as a good of time as any. I went straight to the garage, grabbed a few moving boxes, and then proceeded to spring clean my closet.
1. Pull out the ugly
3. Love it OR Hate it
This is the moment where everything comes out of your closet. Pull each article of clothing out one by one and make two piles and only two piles. Pile number one is for items that you love or the Love it pile. Pile number two is for items that you hate, haven't worn in a long time, or can do without. Also known as the Hate it pile. The trick here is to make quick and decisive decisions. The more you think the more time you have to convince yourself that it is a good idea to keep that three year old cat sweater. Once your closet is completely empty. Toss everything in your Hate it pile into a box. Make sure to not go back through it. It's time to just let your old clothing go.
4. Love it leave it
We are almost done. This last step will leave you feeling lighter and very accomplished. Go through your Love it pile and ask yourself these questions.
Have you worn that in the last year?
Does it have an emotional attachment?
If you answered yes to either of those two questions then it becomes a leave it piece and goes back into the closet. If you answered no to both, you might want to rethink your decision to keep it.
