We have a team/family member training for her very first Spartan Race! The decision was rather spontaneous. In fact she only gave herself 4 weeks to train for what I am understanding is a 3 to 5 mile obstacle course that will most definitely include mud. Since it it is her first Spartan Race and she only has 4 weeks to prepare. She have been giving it her all everyday. This detication, determination, and overall excitement has inspired today's Blog Post. Which depicts the idea of having, knowing, and utilizing motivation in order to achieve the goals you set for yourself.
Knowing When To Give It Your All!
How do you know what situations deserve your ALL and which ones don't. It is an everyday problem that I am sure we all run into. Some might suggest that you give your ALL all of the time to everything you do. I however find that to be utterly silly and impossible. If you live this consistently you will most definitely burn out and find that you might lose that precious motivation you had before. I believe that there is a more realistic and simple way of looking at thinks that will help to discern which tasks/goals deserve everything you have and which one deserve a little less.
Here It Is
Knowing When To Give Your All, Put Simply!
1. Is it important to you?
2. How bad do you want it?
3. Is it the right thing to do in you life at that moment?
Is It Important To You?
Asking yourself and figuring out how important it is to you is one of the first things you should ask yourself. If you find that it is important to you then of course you should give it your all. It dose not matter if it is important to others or what they think. My best advice would be to ignore them and do what is important to you. Hopefully if you have a supportive group of friends and family that will also find importance in your goals and support you. It is important to respect the things that are import to other people. For instance Spartan Racing is not really my cup of tea. It however is very important to our team/family member so everyone here is supporting her and wishing her well on her exciting journey of giving it her ALL.
How Bad Do You Want It?
If the end goal to a journey is something that you want. Then of course give it you ALL. You only get one life, so why not be a little selfish. For instance when I decided to become at Stay At Home Mom so young in my life. Everyone and their distant cousins told me I was making s mistake and to follow the path that most people my age were taking. I however being myself ignored them and did what I wanted to because it was important to me and it was something that I wanted pretty badly. Even though many people did not agree with the choices I was making at the time. Here I am 21 years later with 5 wonderful almost fully grown children. I own my own business and wake up every morning smiling. So even though I didn't follow the others around me. I wanted to be a Stay At Home Mom badly enough that I ignored all of their protests and did my own thing. Which lead me down this wonderful path that I currently find myself on.
Is It The Right Thing
Sometimes there are those situations that arise where you find you do not really want to do it or even really care about it. Weather or not you participate in such events has no personal meaning to you. However if you take a moment to stop and ask yourself if it is the right thing to do and the answer you hear back is a resounding yes. Then yes it is time to step up and yes it is time to give your ALL. You can not always expect others to pick up your slack and do the dirty work for you. I will tell you the same thing I tell my children "be the leader in all things right". You can be passive in other aspects of your life, but if it is the right thing to do. Then don't sit back and wait for others to accomplish what you can do just as easily. BE THE LEADER! MAKE THE CHANGE!
It's Basic But Powerful
My thought process may not work for everyone. It can be construed as being basic or simple. Yet its formula is one that works for me and hopefully it will work for you. The ice cream cone that fell on the brand new couch is probably not as important as the tears of the child who just lost there ice cream. It's truly all about how you look at it.
