Our Saturday's are getting more and more enjoyable as we visits different Markets.
Last week we visited the Jefferson County Farmers Market. Located in Uptown Port Townsend Washington. We found ourselves visiting this peaceful coastal town on the perfect day. The weather was fairly cloudy with only slight sprinkles or rain making their appearance a few times during our adventure.
Port Townsend is located just a ferry ride away from us. We arrived at the Market about and hour and a half after it officially started. Earlier that week when we realized we would not be able to arrive any sooner we were a little bummed. We enjoyed being able to see the Coupeville Market come to life and were a little sad that we would not be able to do the same for the Port Townsend Market. We were however amazed at what we were seeing once we found parking of course. There were people walking around in every direction carrying market bags filled to the bring with fresh veggies and handcrafted arts. It was not just our eyes that were treated with the wonderful sight of a busy Saturday Market. Our ears could hear people talking and laughing about different products, local news, and the weather. Our noses however I feel had the best experience. As soon as we step out of our car and headed towards the first booths. We were greeted with the delicious smells of coffee, backed pastures, breads, and fresh clean air. While we though that we might be missing out by being a little late. We were humbly surprised to find that it was just a exciting to walk into a happily running Market to one that is just awakening.
There was so much going on, that we decided a walk through of the entire Market was in order. We wanted to glance into every booth to see what was going on. Our walk through took us by venders selling bonsai trees, organic cider, lavender lotions ,and lamb. I even saw some fresh quail eggs! There were also fresh farm eggs, plants straight form the garden. The Market also held many booths containing cheese. Wonderful and amazing different types and styles of delicious cheese. We may have even stopped by each both to try all of their samples. That is why I am positive in saying they were delicious.
By the time we were ready to do our second walk through of the Market. We were ready to start putting things in our beautifully large Market bag. We did come to the Market with a mission to find a cheese that would be perfect in a ravioli. After trying so many different cheeses and meeting each of the wonderful venders from each both. We ended up getting three different types to experiment with.
We also went ahead a picked up a bottle of Cider. We also picked up a bottle of Pear Wine with Apple Brandy from the same vender. It was really delicious and made me very excited to make food that I can incorporate it with. The Saturday Market located in Port Townsend is a little bigger and busier than the Coupeville Saturday Market. All of the venders were very friendly. However the two women that handcrafted the Cider and Pear Wine were the only two that we felt took the time to really explain their product to us. We thought this was very helpful in our purchasing decision.
Another product that we picked up was a beaded necklace. The women who makes them told us she handcrafts them out of colorfully decorated wrapping paper. I had no idea that she made them out of paper until she stood up and started to talk to us about her product. She like the two venders who sold us the Cider and Wine was also extremely friendly and helpful. This is the very reason why I love attending Saturday Markets I find it fun and fascinating to meet and to talk to people on a more personal level. I love connecting with people who make the products that I am purchasing.
On our walk out of the Market we notice a band playing music on a stage at one end of the Market. At the other end was a man playing his guitar and singing. We even noticed that when the guitarist was finished with his set. He set up a tight rope a few yards away in the park next door. All in all we loved our trip and will most likely visit again sometime later.
