It's summer, and that means it's also BBQ time!
For myself personally, when I think summer I think grilling delicious dinners outdoors. Although I do know there are some out there that either live in summer all year round or just love to grill. So grilling unlike for me, isn't just a summertime occurrence.
While my few tips and tricks won't really be helpful to those, who love to grill year-round. It might help those like myself who wait for the sunny days to light up the BBQ.
Check Things Out
Grilling is pretty easy. You have a choice between gas or charcoal.
I typically use gas at home and charcoal if it's a day at the park for us.
Whichever method I opt for I like to check things out. You know make sure things are in operating order and to make sure there is enough fuel of whichever form. That way, the heat doesn't just stop midway through. I also like to check and make sure the grill is clean and ready to take on a hearty BBQ feast.
The Day Before
The day before a big cookout, I focus on making sure that whatever I plan on grilling is allowed to marinate overnight.
Marinating doesn't have to be complicated; it can be as easy as rubbing your favorite seasonings into the meat. My absolute favorite is marinated vegetables. A little bit of olive oil, garlic, lemon and touch of salt is a perfect side. If you're wondering how to cook it, I place the veggies into foil packs and cook on indirect heat.
We are impatient people, always looking for the fast way to get things done.
Yet, here's the secret....
The grill should always have time to warm up.
Allowing the grill 15 to 20 minutes will make a world of difference.
Never Underestimate The Sides
I know when it's your BBQ, your main focus is about the tasty food you are grilling and not necessarily the sides. I know that when I'm feeling a little overwhelmed or unplanned for my guests. I tend to toss the sides off to the side, and really treat them as nuisance although there is real magic to be had in delectable sides at a summer BBQ.
If I can I try to keep, the pre-made store-bought goodies to a minimum. Now I'm all about ease and speed, but a little effort placed into a cold pasta salad can really make a yummy difference.
Keep It Easy, It's A BBQ
When it's a simple family dinner, BBQ's are no pressure dinners. Although when it enters the realm of get togethers, the pressure increases substantially. It's hard to in the moment, but I like to remind myself the simple summer fun there is in grilling up an outstanding dinner.
Here are just a few things that I like to keep in mind when grilling season comes around.
