I have been asked a few times what the best way is to start a blog. In regards to all of those question. I dedicate today's blog to how to start a blog. While I feel like I know a quite a bit of handy information I do not claim to be an expert on this topic. All I want to achieve from this blog. Is to provided those that were and are curious a starting place
If you find that this topic dose not peak your interest. Go ahead and check out a few of my favorite blogs listed on the right hand side of your screen. I also encourage you to explore around our website.
What Kind Of Blog
The first thing you have to do is decide what kind of blog you want to start.
Who is your target audience?
The things that you wish to write about and your target audience should match up in a fairly obvious way, at least at first. For me The Thavin & Marcob Newsroom is a way for us to keep open communication with our customers. We share tips and tricks, we feature guest bloggers, and we feature products from our boutique. As well as share a little bit about ourselves. I want Thavin & Marcob to have some transparency. Therefore we created the newsroom in order to achieve that goal.
Create A Business Name
Deciding on a business name can be really hard. It did take me awhile to come up with our name Thavin & Marcob. Once you have a name chosen. Check and make sure it is not in use. You also need to make sure that it is an open name within your state registry. This way you have the ability to request a business licenses within your state,
As soon as you decide on business name. Go ahead and apply for your business licenses.
Next is choosing your hosting site. Here is where the big decisions start happening!
You can use someone like BlogLovin, com. Which I don't really know a lot about, but they have a heavy presence on Pinterest.
You can purchase a domain name and link your domain with your hosting site. This is the route that I took Thavin & Marcob. We use Weebley as our hosting site. It is extremely easy, customer service is amazing, and it had everything that we were looking for in a hosting site.
Here is my list of top 5 requirements for a hosting site.
(Make sure your hosting site fits within your budget.)
(You are going to want to know that your hosting page has support available. In this case it is better to be safe than sorry.)
(You are going to want to work with a hosting site that has security for yourself as well as your users.)
(Having an easy to use integrated shopping cart is what sold us on deciding to use Weebly.)
Page Loading Time
(No one ever wants to deal with a slow loading page. Loading promptness is something we felt was an extremely important element when we went looking for a site.)
Now that you have a name, business licenses, and web hosting site. It is now time to start building your website and posting blogs. I would recommend having a few blogs done before you publish your site.
I've gotten better over the last year at utilizing my own photos for publishing, but every once in awhile I still purchase photos from Canva and wordswag.
Blogs take a little bit of time to grow. So do not despair if your traffic starts off low. We all have to start somewhere. In fact when I started Thavin & Marcob Newsroom we only had 10 visits our first week. Just remember to keep writing, keep engaging and everything will fall into place.
How will people find you
Yes SEO Matters
SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization and it is important to have on your blog post. This is the one thing I'm terrible at, but Weebley dose have apps that can help you.
