Moving from being a strictly Online Boutique to an in person boutique as well. Is a little more trickery then I had initially thought. Even the little things we do, such as an Instagram post have a lot of thought put into them. So you can imagine how much time, preparation, hard work, and redo's have happened to make our La Connor Boutique a reality. Not only is assembling the shop a task in it self. We also had to learn how to be personable and interact with a customer. This was something that we did not nessicasrry have to think about when we were an Online Boutique. All of the interactions we had with customers came about online. So there of course was plenty of typing and retyping when we sent out emails/replies. Thankfully during our Soft Opening we had a chance to learn how to be personable and friendly. I thought that it would be fun to share what we have learned with all of you out there who also might want to learn or expand your knowledge of how to have a friendly interaction with a customer.
Thavin & Marcob's Tips
Always say Hi/Hello to everyone walking in the door. Manners still matter. So make use to still them. A warm and friendly Hello breaks the ice. As well as welcomes the customer to walk into your shop with a happy mind set. Your kindness might make someone's day.
Make sure you offer to answer any questions they may have or offer to help in any way.
Show your customer the service you wish to receive every time you walk into a retail store.
This is the one I think is the absolute most important tip. Probably the most valuable one I know as well. The tip is to Be Generous! I decided to give out these canvas tote bags during our Soft Opening. These bags were not special, they were not high end. They were nothing fancy at all. Don't get me wrong the were absolutely adorable. I was just unaware of how much the community of La Connor would love them. During our first few days of being opened we told people that they will receive a canvas tote bag with their purchase. After only two days we had people coming into our boutique to find out if it was true and how they could get one. The word of month that was created because of these totes was amazing and truly unexpected. So even if your just starting, even if it is opening day, and even if your broke as hell. I suggest you give a simple 10% off each of your customers purchase. Being known as generous and welcoming is always a positive reputation to have wen you own a business.
Be respectful to all. Respect al of the customers who walk into your shop. Amazingly enough about 99% of the time they will show you the same curtesy. You are going to run into those people that are in a bad mood and that are rude, but you should find happiness in knowing that you can still be the sunshine during a gloomy day.
Don't be afraid to Ask Questions. If your conversing with a customer and are unclear as to what they are explaining to you, ask a question. Form your questions in different ways until you understand the issue/problem/concern they are having. Sometimes it is great to just listen to what your customers are saying. This will help you grow as both a business and as a business owner. Not to mention make you a more pleasant person to interact with.
