I love it when people come in and ask me about my outfit of the day.
Mainly because I have come to realize in the last year about how emotionally attached I am to some of those older fashions in my closet! Which in a simple statement is kind of crazy, but when I really think about it. It really just shows the world how big my heart it. Granted there are pieces I wouldn't miss if they went away. However there are some pieces that I would be devastated if I was to ruin or lose them.
My Weekend Sweater
When the kids were younger we use to give them cash to go purchase Christmas gifts at the mall for family members, this included my husband and myself. Over the years we have gotten some pretty crazy things, but one year I received a very special sweater! The child who purchased this sweater was in maybe 4th grade at the time. To say the least he was still a baby, but starting to grow and change. It was the pre awkward stage. Which is one of the reasons why it is probably ones of those emotional attachment pieces.
That Christmas eve. When we decide to open up our gifts that we got each other. My wonderful sweet little boy jumped up and before grabbing himself a gift to open he grabbed the one he purchased for me. He wanted to make sure it was the first one I opened. From that second on I knew that whatever was underneath that Christmas wrapping paper was highly important to him. I may be a cheesy mom, but the gift itself wasn't as important as the light in his eyes or the excitement I could hear within in voice. I pulled off the wrapping paper, lifted the lid of the box, and removed the tissue!
To be surprised with a sweater. My favorite color that year was gray. He must have made note because the sweater was gray. We lived in Texas which to be honest the majority of there winter days are only as cold as a rough Fall day in the Northwest so I wore a lot of short sleeves during this time. He must of again made a mental note because as soon as it left the packaging he showed me all the different ways I could wear it and not overheat. I could tie it in the front, on the side, or in the back. I can wear it with long sleeves ,short sleeves, or even my tank top.
He's actually 19 now and I don't wear it as often as I first did, but I still wear it especially on relaxed days at home. It's not the style of the sweater or the color that keeps pulling me back to it. Its all about the memory that is inter woven within it. My favorite fashion piece is bigger than it being stylish and cute. I have growth an emotional attachment to my dear sweater.
Oh There's More
My emotional attachment to certain fashions in my closet is actually quite long.
Safely tucked away in my closet is the first sweater we carried at Thavin & Marcob. This guy happily reminds me of all the hard work we have put into the shop from day one till now.
Oh and of course there is the beanie my husband purchased for me on our first trip to the mountains. During our Christmas break right after we had moved back to the pacific northwest.
Can't forget about the bracelet he bought me a few years ago from a weekend getaway to the beach where he proposed 25 years ago.
I'm a big consumer. I'm always shopping, so I do have things I'm not emotionally attached to and I guess realistically you could form an attachment to everything you purchased. Yet my personal attachments to fashions usually have to do with the memory they evoke when I slip them on. It's the tenderness of love and the thankfulness of having that special person in my life. It's just a little bit more than just the possession of great fashion. It's the story and happy vibes behind it.
Do you have any fond memories tied to some of your fashions?

Happy Cyber Monday Everyone!
Last July my favorite Danish Designer came out for a visit.
Makayla and I are very fortunate to work so closely with this amazingly creative and pronominal designer. She has this uncanny ability to take what Makayla and I describe and create these breathtakingly beautiful works of art that are wearable for our clients. It's hands down one the most amazing processes I have ever experienced.
What We Were Looking For
One of the main elements to the jewelry pieces Makayla and I were hoping to portray in these fresh newly designed earrings was a modern sophisticated chic vibe. We not only hoped from them to publicly look modern and chic, but we wanted our beloved clients to emotionally and physically feel modern, chic, and sophisticated. Which we both know is a tall order to request from someone, but once again I am left happily speechless. Our magnificent artist and jeweler was able to take our dream vision of earring and craft something that is truly beyond the wonders of wonder and amassment.
Our Designer is one to really value. She came in, brain stormed with us, listened to you, gave us her insight, show us rough sketches, and then two weeks later surprised us with these masterpieces of wearable art in the mail. MaKayla and I know that sometimes we are hard to work with because while we may be in sync with each other and understand the mental vision of the other. Others we have the pleasure of working with are no privy to said cheat code. Which is why when we opened the package two weeks later and saw our exact vision come to life we were floored. We requested that the earrings house sophistication. Which means trendy but in softer teams. Nothing that is in your face or crazy. She captured that seemingly effortlessly.
Each pair of earrings was meticulously designed with you in mind.
Representing the love and respect that we mutually share with all our clients.
It was sharing our passion not only with our beloved and magnificent designer
that created such beauty, but with sharing our passion all of you.
We hope you enjoy wearing these beautiful works of art with you where ever you go.

I read an article...
it's one thing my team members hate hearing, for it means change.
What they really hear is prep yourself because we are going to try something new.
Our new storefront has two very large windows. With such windows we have this new found limitless creative freedom. Which is something everyone here loves and appreciates beyond belief. Although we do not have much experience when it pertains to dressing up retail windows. So my mission...READ, READ, & READ some more.
One of the things that stood out the most for me was to create themes for the windows. have them tell a story. My goal as one of the founders of Thavin & Marcob is to be personal. I enjoy sharing bits and pieces of me with all of you and suddenly I had this thought. what if I could share a story about me in the window. Something that pertained to feelings I felt or something I had experienced.
Ideas Take Flight
We began to write them out on our notebooks, white board, and some just didn't get jotted down because they where tossed out so quickly. The one we decided to focus on was HOME.
This is where I began to fall in love because when I shared my idea with our team members sudden excitement filled up our meeting room! Which is always an amazing moment for me.
Our conversation sparked the fuse to an array of ideas....
What does home mean to us?
What does home mean to me?
This is where the elements of our window get a little personal..
For us as a family we have moved every two to three years for the past 15 years. That means that we did not necessary have roots within a community we were always visitors, outsiders. Just someone who is around for a minute before we moved on to our next adventure.
Until this one year...

This one year I was looking for a place to move too and my husband recommend that the kids and I head out to Whidbey island. He thought we would love the atmosphere out there.
So the kids and I packed up a lunch and planned a day of exploring the island.
What can I say, it's beautiful, it's quite, it's just what we were looking for.
Luckily I found a rental house very quickly and we moved onto the island about 5 weeks after our planned day of exploring. Might sound fast to some, but this is just another day in the life for my family and I.
The island felt like home. It was the first time in my adult life I finally felt like I was home. I stopped looking for the next adventure, looking for the next place to move too. I felt relaxed and in honestly the more I felt relaxed the more the kids felt relaxed. As first year ended I realized that we had found it, that thing I could not name, the place my heart had been looking for was here on Whidbey Island.
We did our best to capture that in our windows this season. Our house on Whidbey Island was surrounded by beautiful lush tress that the kids and dogs loved to play in. I took that treasured memory from my mind and recreated it in one of the windows. In the other you will find a red door. This is because our first house on the island had a red door and now no matter how many houses on the island we live in. A red front door will always spark that feeling of entering the place we belong. Of not just walking through a doorway that is a part of a house we will live in for a few years and then soon leave for another, but of walking into home, our home.
This was the story we wanted to share with you. This is what home is to us, it's not a thing, it's not building, it's a feeling of comfort and belonging.
Share what home is to you, we would love to better get to know you.
Everyone here at ThavinMarcob hopes that you have a wonderful and safe weekend.
Thavin & Marcob is a place where you are celebrated for being you!
