Today's DIY office space is easy!
Here are a few things that you will need
1. A Fence Board
2. Knobs or Hooks
(This portion depends on the desired look you want.)
5. Paint or Stain
7. Possibly an Electric Drill
(This depends on The kind of screws you use)
Start by sanding down your board, This project is something you could put to use an old piece of wood laying out in the garage.
If you used a fence board like I did, you will not get a perfectly smooth surface. Which is why I chose the fence board I was looking for a little bit of a rough look. Once you have the board the way you want it its time to stain/paint the board. I used a gray stain for my project because I wanted to carry the look of the desk up towards the wall.
Now its time for a coffee break while your board dries. I have a huge habit of starting my projects first thing in the morning and then finishing up that afternoon or the next day. I was able to complete this particular project the next day.
I found these really cute hooks at a local store here in town. I do believe I have seen something like them at hobby lobby, but I can't guarantee that you will be able to find the exact ones I used. I didn't actually buy these for any particular reason, it was something I saw at one time months ago and thought they where cute so I picked them up.
The next step is to decide where you would like your knobs to be along the board and drill in some holes for the screws. My hooks actually had holes in the front of them so I used wood screws to hold them into the board.
If you have read a past Blog you are aware that I like things that work for me, That definitely includes my clothing. I want products that can be used for different things but still carry a sense of style. Which is where these adorable bags come into play. I did mention that we would be using a few thing in the Boutique to bring a fresh sense of a unique style in my home office. Let me reintroduce you to these amazing Recycled Fiesta bags.
These bags will actually become the focal point of my wall above the desk.
I used three of these bags.
1. Lay them out flat next to each other
This is only necessary if you want them to hang the same distance. If your looking for a haphazard look then you can skip this step.
Next you are going to tie a knot to create the length you want and tad your done! Hang them up and now you have some amazingly stylish baskets to hold or in my instance hide all your stuff! A bonus is that your friends probably don't have the same look in their home office. So go for it,
Order yours today and share pictures, please!
I would love to see what you create.
I filled one with my Magazines, the second with papers, and I left the third empty so I could fill it up when I needed a quick clean.
Yet, the best part of this storage DIY is I can grab and go!
Okay, I would need to be a little more organized but the ability is there!

I'm excited to share this next series with you!
I'm a firm believer in creating fun spaces. I think the space around you says just as much about you as fashion does. This series is going to cover my DIY home office space!
Are you as excited as I am?
I picked up this door a few years ago. I've used it for a few different things around the house. Its been a photo prop, a bulletin board, a Halloween decoration, and now its going to be a Desk.
Today we're going kicking off this series with a DIY desk.
I love the combination of a shabby and industrial look. I don't think it has a name really and most would think it looks like a mess but its my space so it should be something I love!
Here is what I have and what you will want:
1.Vintage closet door
( These tend to be solid wood and not as wide as newer doors.)
2. Iron pipes
( You will need to scrub the crap out of these but the look is worth it.)
3. Glass panel
(I was originally going to use Plexiglas, however it would have been triple the price of glass.)
4.Stain or paint
(Decide based off what look you want.)
I used stain and I spray painted my iron pipes in black.
I had amazing helpers to help with the sanding.
The only thing with sanding vintage furniture is you have to absolutely be careful of led paint Wear protection, I cannot stress that enough.
Here is what mine looked like once the sanding was complete. I did ask that a little of the original white be left on it to help with the rustic look. then I stained it. Once the screw are screwed into place. You'll have yourself an band new or rather repurposed office desk.
Make sure you bookmark us! Tomorrow we're adding a few things from the boutique, as well as starting a new project!
If your a little curious this project cost me about 100.00.
If you are patient you could do it cheaper,
By collecting iron pipes from salvage stores or garage sales! Also by looking for glass and doors on Craigslist.
I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

I've crammed a lot of information and personal opinions for the past two weeks.. However the one and only thing I would love for you to take away from our newsroom, Is that you are powerful and so are your everyday activities.
By no means am I saying this is the only way to shop but I truly believe that a healthy balance is beneficial for consumers. If your driving to work this morning and you see that independently owned coffee shop, stop in! Know your five dollar cup of coffee is helping someone live out their dream! If your going to order a knitted hat for the fall season, why not order an Artisanal product.
I truly hope you enjoyed this series and that you take the time to share it with others. Because at the end of the day everyone has the power to help someone fulfill their dreams or better their lives.

Free Trade is a policy that allows governments to import or export products freely with each other. Meaning the government does not restrict imports or exports with certain countries. This is a very basic description of the policy. I do not pretend to know all the ins and outs of the policy nor am I advocating for the policy or against the policy. My goal here is to help you, the consumer realize the power you wield.
Free trade is not the same as Fair trade. Fair trade has requirements for both vendors and those creating the product. Free Trade does not follow the Fair trade guidelines.
Free trade allows corporations to run anyway they wish as long as they are within the country of organs laws. However that's probably more assumption than fact.
When you buy Free trade it is still possible to be helping someone live out there dream of being a business owner. Your purchase can still make a difference if you want it to.
here are a few places to start if you are thinking of taking advantage of Free Trade purchases.
1. Ask questions
Small business owners all over the world love connecting with their customers. So reach out and Connect with the owner.
2.If it doesn't feel right Walk away!
Their are deceptive people out there. If it doesn't feel right walk away, listen to your gut!
3.Use reputable sites
Always use reputable sites! I can not stress that enough. Etsy.com is a great way to connect with small business owners all over the world.
Even if you have ordered from a specific company before, read the reviews! You don't want to find out after your purchase that the product no longer meets high quality standards or that customer service has slipped to the wayside.
5.Only use safe ways to pay.
Don't just give your card number out. Make sure the site is secure or use PayPal which offers extra protections to its customers. You should never agree to wire money.
Shopping is suppose to be fun. Your ordering that special something for you or someone you love. Enjoy your purchase experience as well as your consumer power!
See you tomorrow!
I wrote an article last month that gave a pretty quick explanation of what Fair Trade means when its attached to a product sold within our boutique. Yet I did not cover exactly what your buying power means to the communities found around the world.
Remember your spending and your purchases create a chain of great effect. Any of your dollars spent on Fair Trade products allows several things to happen.
1. It Empowers Women
Fair trade allows women in developing countries to work together to create a product that in turn ends up on our site. We are not the only company that carries Fair Trade and by no means is Fair Trade just for women. Yet the women who do participate in the Fair Trade organization are creating an income for their families. They are growing more confident everyday and they are living out their dream.
Wow take a moment to think about that. Your dollar made a difference to someone across the ocean. Your spending matters and guess what you made a difference!
2. Villages Flourish
The Fair Trade Organization works hard to bring villages up from poverty. They help communities join together to create something magical. That in turn allows people to feel pride and to find economic stability. You contribute to that when you buy any product labeled Fair Trade!
3. Decent Working Conditions
In order to be considered Fair Trade working conditions have to meet a certain criteria. As a result, the people found within the communities are working in cleaner conditions and are being treated with respect. As well as being offered fair prices for their work.
Once again you have the power. Everyday anyone can make a difference. It dose not even require a ton of effort. Its easy, and honestly why wouldn't you want to.
This week we have been discussing the power we each hold as consumers.

Everyone has buying power!
How you utilize your buying power has a huge impact on your local economy as well as global corporations.
I'm a big thrift store shopper. It's green, It's cheap, and it supports local organizations.
For every dollar I spend at the thrift store I am
1.Helping the environment
By buying used products you are preventing a textile from finding its way into your local landfill.
2. Your helping your local community
By utilizing your local thrift store you are helping your community to maintain a healthy economy. Your purchase allows jobs to be created in some instances and in others you will find a wide variety of volunteers. Which leads us to number three
