The other day I was snuggled up on the couch having a wonderful in-depth conversation with my husband. The topic was our childhoods, which we discovered were vastly different. We have been married for such a long time. That I forget we experienced different childhoods. Through our conversation, I was reminded of the moments and aspects of my childhood that I am eternally grateful for.
The main topic of our conversation centered around family time such as family get-togethers and/or family vacations.
Just that statement probably sparked a memory for you. For instance, maybe you thought of this past holiday season. Family time varies it can feel marvelous, be a giant catastrophe, even shock you beyond your imagination. Any way you spin it family time is family time and it is one of those things that as years pass by I come to consciously appreciate more and more.
Which brings me to my first thought of the day:
As the years pass you by your view of memories change. Sometimes it's because you realize and understand more as an adult than you did as a child or maybe its because an adult took the time to explain to the present you what you as a child didn't need to know.
We all try to protect the children around us which means they never know the full story. They don't always need all the facts, they just need enough information to know that this happened or this is going to happen. It's just simply a parents way of protecting their child from all the ugliness of the world around them.
I've had this experience with my children as they have grown. For example, we made a big out of state move one year. We told the kids it was a big adventure, it was something new, and that we were going to go live by so and so. What I didn't tell them was that dad had been out of work for 6 months and we had this new job opportunity come up and we had to take it in order to survive. There was no reason for them to know we were worried about money. There was no reason for them to know that their dad was experiencing and that there was nothing they could do to change or help. So yes I decided to keep them in the dark. I decided to let them be kids and for us to deal with the adult stuff of paying bills. Whether there is a right or wrong choice in this situation the truth is and always will be that this was how I decided to handle it. It was my choice to make because at the end of the day I was the adult in the situation, not them.
The kids get it now that they are older and it's something they have stated they appreciated. Yet, I was surprised to find that now, especially now, I could still look back on my childhood and interpret it differently then I did 10 years ago.
Which brings us to my second thought of the day:
I have read that your memories change each time you remember them because you are not really remembering the actual event. You are remembering the last time you remembered the event.
So my thought today was,
Did I get something different from my memories
because the memories changed or did I change?
I have chosen to believe that my experience of my memories is different because I have changed. I don't think it was the last memory that changed. I think I have become more comfortable with myself, more forgiving of others, and more compassionate then I have been in the past. I think that every day we experience new things. Small insignificant experiences that ultimately change our views of the world, of yourself and the past. These experiences are not noted when they happen or even right after they happen yet there it is. I'm changing every day, hopefully into a better person, hopefully, into the me I'm supposed to be.
What are some moments that brought you joy this past week?

Did You Know...
Did You Know...
I truly thought the plastic I was buying was fine as long as I recycled it, I was unaware that this plastic could only be recycled twice before it was sent to landfills.
Did You Know...
Did You Know...
Yet, even though I know this method of fashion causes environmental issues for our society. I never really truly gave a thought to what it actually does to us as individuals. I read quite a few different articles that pointed out that the mental perception of fast fashion is one of the reasons women are always on the hunt for the newest style. The pressure to be the It Girl is very real, and it's affecting us as a whole.
Did You Know...
I as an individual am always learning and always growing.
Here's what I took away from these fun facts.
1. My family and I have made the permanent switch to using a water cooler at home. We now are refilling our 5-gallon bottles so that we may lower our impact of used plastic.
2. I'm going to start collecting buttons! I'm so fascinated by that fun fact that I am going to see how I can utilize them for projects around the house.
3. I have always been a lover of fashion. Ever since I saw my first documentary years ago about child labor in fashion manufactures. I've always tried to think out my purchases. The last few years have brought out some amazing styles of Ethically Made clothing, which is something I am slowing trying to grow my closet with. However, I am going to try to be more conscientious of the throwaway textiles and think outside the box on ways I can repurpose them.
I love learning new fun facts. While I know that perfection always is impossible and that you can not be your best all of the time. I think my take away from these fun facts is a great place to start.
I would love to hear about any fun facts you guys have.
I would love to hear your favorite lunch recipes.
Leave your links in the comments and maybe we can get a roundup of lunch recipes together.
It's a day where we are kindly reminded to make a conscious effort to show genuine kindness to all of those around you. There is a powerful effect that happens when a complete stranger shows you unexpected kindness. It's a little hard to explain and quite crazy how a complete stranger can help uplift your mood so much without knowing anything about you.
Every chance I get I love to show others Random Acts Of Kindness
because I know how magical and powerful such a thing can be.
A Cup Of Coffee and A Mental It's Going To Be Okay
This is a moment and a Random Act Of Kindness I will never forget and will always appreciate. They may have not known my morning wasn't going in my favor, but them paying for my coffee made me feel like they were saying, " Hey, it's going to be okay". Their Random Act Of Kindness held so much more meaning for me and for that I will always look back fondly on this memory.
Letting Me Cut In Front
A couple of years back one of my children needed to be taken to a more equipped hospital through ambulance transport. I could not ride with them because I had two younger ones that I need to drive. Stressed to the max, I found myself driving behind the ambulance with intense concern. In that exceptionally stressful drive, one Random Act OF Kindness stood out to me and has been a memory that happily reminds. All I wanted to do was make sure that I stayed behind the ambulance. Which was rather difficult although was made a lot easier when a car let me cut in front of them. They didn't have too, they didn't know who I was, or what was happening, but they let me in front anyways and for that, I am eternally grateful. This simple Random Act Of Kindness made all the difference to me, words can not explain.
Uplifted My Spirits
It might sound silly, but Random Acts Of Kindness
really do hold such a powerful overwhelming feeling of happiness and appreciation.
Let's Celebrate #NationalRandomActsOfKindnessDay Together This Sunday February, 17.
I am Overworked
Day two comes into view and knowing that I didn't need to be up for any reason. I truly slept in for the first time in forever. Once my eyes did open ready to face the day, I quietly worked as I sipped my coffee. After a bit of time had passed I decided to venture outside and finally play and enjoy the snow in all of its glory. I sledded down our driveway multiple times and then took the adventure even further by going for a walk around the neighborhood. When the cold finally got to me I shivered my way back inside to happily enjoy a steaming cup of hot apple cider with a hint of brandy. Once that last sip slide down my throat, I was out. The amazing thing was that I didn't just nap. I fell completely asleep on my couch with a movie playing in the background. There was nothing in the world that could have woken me up. I was out for the count. I woke up with the greatest refreshed feeling I have honestly felt in years.
It's day three and the sun has finally decided to peak through the clouds gracing our faces with its warm glow. I find myself on my back porch sipping my coffee. When all of a sudden I get smacked in the face with this realization that quite honestly cracked my heart a fair bit. I am overworked. Not only am I overworked to the point of exhaustion, but work is the only thing that my mind thinks about. Almost every thought I have revolves around Thavin & Marcob. We have goals that we want to achieve so I just keep going and going. Not realizing that it is draining me from the inside out. If you know me, you know that this is not me. This workaholic person is never someone I aspired to be. I love living in the moment, I love adventure, I love all the wonders that the world has to offer. Yet, somehow along the way, I pushed that love so far down that it almost disappeared with my ambitions for Thavin & Marcob. In turn, creating this workaholic monster that can't even enjoy an innocent snow day with her children. This realization really hit me hard, especially because it shacked my core beliefs so much so that I realized I as a person was so consumed I changed into someone I never thought imaginable.
I am only human, so I might just reach this point again some time in the future.
Although hopefully, it won't take a huge winter storm for me to realize this.
What did the winter storm teach you?
Marie Kondo organization method; does this spark joy, no it goes, yes, it stays.
I think the core of this method is quite helpful. I truly appreciated the folding lessons and the fantastic tips on getting things organized around the house. Which is why I decided that I was going to embark on a year of organizing.
I first filled up larger jars with the spices I typically use for baking such as kosher salt, parsley, brown sugar, flour, regular sugar, etc. I used smaller jars for cooking spices like Chile powder and cumin.
Next was pasta, which is a popular dish in my household. So we always have an abundant amount on hand. Which is why I decided that tall clear containers would be the best choice.
So far I love all of the new improvements I have made and they do seem to be doing what I hoped. I figured in a few weeks I would go back through and add or take away what didn't work and what I think might. Until then what is the one thing your pantry has that you think I should add?
Here is how my family and I choose to embrace the winter.
Cocoa and Snowfall
A Friendly Reminder For Hydration
The snow helps to reflect the suns UV rays onto your skin. So while it may not be abundantly obvious like a hot summers day. Make sure before you head out for some snow fun, you put on a nice protective layer of sunscreen.
The fabulous winter winds can also dry out your skin. This is something that you will eventually notice from sheer discomfort, but try to stay ahead and hydrate your skin and lips with moisturizing.
Water is key when exerting energy building the snowman of all snowmen. Keep water close on hand and stay hydrated this winter.
Share with is how you and your family choose to Embrace Winter.
