Have you ever been told to stop being fake and embrace the real you? Or maybe you have had someone tell you to be authentic. There are lots of people out there judging your every move nowadays. With social media everywhere, and I mean ever where it's hard to keep boundaries in place. It's hard to figure out who the real you is when you're always trying to be the perfect version of you just in case someone is shooting a live video or sending a snap pic with your mouth full of food for their insta account. I have discovered there are a few things that will help balance things out and allow you to be the real you.
Taking time for just you with just you is a fantastic accomplishment even for those who appear to have it all together. Think about it when was the last time you went to the movies on your own, or maybe out to lunch on your own. Both situations allow you to just be you with only you. You're not trying to hold a conversation; you're not worried about what to say; next, you're in the moment with just you. Mediating is also an excellent way to connect with yourself and nurture your heart and soul.
Acknowledge How You Feel
What we feel every day is complicated even on the best of days. We are not all sunshine and smiles here at Thavin & Marcob. We have days where we are so overwhelmed we want to cry all day about our sorrows. We are working through our everyday fears, our daily expectations, and it's definitely okay to acknowledge those feeling. Not fighting how your feeling is completely healthy and completely necessary for a sane and working mind.
Let Go Of Perfect
I know we keep saying it, and I will keep saying it until everyone has heard.
PERFECT IS NOT REAL!
Say it with me
PERFECT IS NOT REAL!
Stop, just stop striving for perfection. It's not a real, attainable place for any of us. I'm not saying to not grow as a person, and I'm not saying there are not perfect made in heaven moments in life. What I am saying is that life is a messy adventure, one we can choose to accept in all its glory and be okay with the fact that it's not real.
Listen To Your Inner Voice
We all have that inner voice that tells us to beware of what's ahead. Or maybe it's telling you to not engage with a particular person or activity. Either way, trust your inner voice. Trust in yourself if it doesn't feel right its probably not the right move for you.
Connect With Your Idenity
Connecting is a word we hear used often. More times then not people are telling us we need to connect with other people, with social causes within our communities. Yet somehow we are never told that we need to take to connect with ourselves. In order for us to be authentic to be real to the world, we need first to know who we are as individuals. We need to take the time to connect with ourselves.
Accepting things as they are can be difficult. I know it can be, the hurt you experienced in the past affects how we are today. Accepting that hurt, moving past that hurt is not a weakness, it's not something to be ashamed of. It's all part of the journey, its a part of your life path. Accepting that things did not go as you wanted is what is needed at times like these. Accepting that sometimes there are limits to what you can do and where you can go is a part of life. Knowing how to accept was is and what was allows you to prepare for what can be and that's being authentic in every way.
Know The Mask You Wear
I'm one person at work, a different one with my special guy, and something entirely different for my family and friends. It's not that any one of those masks I wear makes me fake its just the different parts of me that shine within certain situations. Being aware of who I am in each of those situations gives me the power to be truly authentic with those I interact with.
Allow Yourself To Grow
Today you are you, tomorrow you will be a different version of you, and next year you may not even recognize yourself. Those are genuinely amazing situations. Allowing yourself to grow as a person is not only healthy its a must in today's society. We keep moving forward learning new things about the world around us as well as our selves. Growing is a part of life that we should all embrace fully.
I had quite a week last week. You know those weeks from hell where nothing seems to go the right way no matter how hard you're trying, no matter how hard your working to move forward. There's always something new that appears right in front of you obstructing your view, taking up the whole space of the path your on. It's frustrating, tiring, and even though you know it is childish, you can't help but want to completely stop everything and throw a temper tantrum with a good cry. Don't worry; you're not the only grown-ass adult who wants to angry cry till their face hurts when I find myself in this on the brink of tossing my hands angerly in the air. I like to consult some boss lady quotes to help remind me that I am capable of overcoming any and all obstacles that put themselves before me.
"My coach said I run like a girl. And I said if he ran a little fast he could too." —Mia Hamm
Being a girl does not make you weak. We are not a part of the weaker sex just because we happen to be feminine. In fact, we are fucking strong! We continuously deal with old boys club and in spite of all their bullshit, guess what we are still successful. Being a woman is empowering, and it's uplifting!
"Whatever you do, be different. If you're different, you will stand out." ~ Anita Roddick
We don't have to work hard at being different or at standing out. We are individuals with significantly different personalities. We are striving to be better versions of ourselves always, but let's be real here. You and I stand out in any room we enter because we are amazingly beautiful inside and out. With just a quick glance anyone will be able to see our spunky personality glowing out from us. I love this quote because I interpret it as a friendly reminder to always be yourself. To never apologize or try to hide your imperfect you.
“In every position that I've been in, there have been naysayers who don't believe I'm qualified or who don't believe I can do the work. And I feel a special responsibility to prove them wrong.” — Sonia Sotomayor
You know what you are capable of, you know what skills you possess, and you only you know how hard you are willing to push to further your knowledge to continue working towards your passion. Never let anyone give you one up down look and decided that you are just not fit for the job. If it's your dream then go get it, girl, you deserve it just as much as anyone else.
“If you retain nothing else, always remember the most important rule of beauty, which is: who cares?” — Tina Fey
You do you. Who gives a fuck if you rock a messy bun or an authentically natural face. If you're happy the rest of the world better catch up.
“It is amazing what a woman can do if only she ignores what men tell her she can’t.” — Carol K. Carr
Sometimes it may seem like an impossible task to do, especially when the voices of others can't are louder than you inner you can do this voice. Always do your best to remember you can do anything you set your mind to.
"You have what it takes to be a victorious, independent, fearless woman." Tyra Banks
Never doubt how amazing and capable you are.
"Girl power is about loving yourself and having confidence and strength from within, so even if you're not wearing a sexy outfit, you feel sexy."
Thavin & Marcob is a place where you are celebrated for being you!
